We are seeking an experienced Industrial Design Engineer with strong SolidWorks expertise to develop innovative sporting accessory products and enhance existing designs for our Australian-based client, whose products have enjoyed global success for almost two decades!
This role is responsible for creating detailed 3D CAD models, supporting prototyping and testing, and working closely with international manufacturers to ensure design feasibility and quality standards. You will take end-to-end ownership of product design from concept through to production, with a strong focus on performance, safety, manufacturability, and commercial outcomes. You will play a key role in shaping new product development, driving design excellence, and collaborating cross-functionally to deliver innovative, market-ready sporting goods.
Responsibilities
- Translate design briefs and product ideas into functional, manufacturable designs.
- Support prototyping and testing, ensuring products meet durability, performance, and safety standards.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD Modelling and 2D drafting – SolidWorks preferred.
- Work with materials, manufacturing processes, and finishes suitable for consumer sporting goods.
- Collaborate with manufacturers (China and India) to validate design feasibility and ensure quality standards.
- Prepare and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs), design documentation, and drawings for production.
- Ensure all designs comply with relevant industry regulations, safety standards, and company requirements.
- Maintain accurate project files, revisions, and records.
- Work closely with product development, supply chain, and marketing teams to align design outputs with business needs.
- Participate in design reviews and incorporate feedback from senior designers and stakeholders.
- Provide updates on project progress, highlighting risks, delays, or opportunities for improvement.
- Research new materials, technologies, and design approaches to enhance product performance.
- Identify areas to improve existing designs, focusing on function, manufacturability, and customer experience.
- Contribute creative ideas that expand the company’s product portfolio and innovation pipeline.
Qualifications & Skills
Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design, Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, or related field.5 years of proven experience as a Product Designer, Industrial Designer, or Mechanical Designer.Strong proficiency in SolidWorks (3D CAD modelling, assemblies, technical drawings).Knowledge of manufacturing processes, particularly plastics, metals, and composites.Experience liaising with overseas manufacturers (China / India preferred).Understanding of prototyping, testing, and product validation.Excellent problem‑solving and technical design skills.Strong communication and collaboration abilities for a cross‑functional team.Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast‑paced environment.Preferred Skills
