Mechanical Design Engineer

SUMMARY OF FUNCTIONS

Mechanical Design Engineer works on the planning, design, estimation and specification development of electrical components of the projects, searching for new engineering solutions; looking to develop new or existing processes; and working to develop more efficient construction methodology.

Duties and Responsibilities :

1. Performs mechanical design work including researching data, conducting feasibility and economic studies, and determining design criteria in accordance with required standards and codes for assigned projects.

2. Designs and implements cost-effective equipment modifications to help improve safety, reliability and throughput.

3. Develops a project specification with colleagues, often including those from other engineering disciplines.

4. Develops and evaluates theoretical electrical designs.

• 5. Encoding / detailing all the materials necessary for the contract to achieve specification;
• 6. Estimating the cost of plant and equipment;
• 7. Calculating a final figure for the estimated cost, supplemented by adjustments for overheads and profit, and presenting a tender price;
• 8. Discuss and solve complex problems with Japanese advisers, project sites, sub-contractors, suppliers and customers;

9. Manages projects using engineering principles and techniques.

10. Produces details of specifications and outline electrical designs.

11. Use research, analytical, conceptual and planning skills, particularly mathematical modeling and computer-aided design.

12. Considers the implications of issues such as cost, safety and time constraints.

13. Develops the utilization of computer programs for the analysis and solution of engineering problems; monitors new developments in data processing applications in the electrical or mechanical engineering field.

14. Prepares and updates material take-off for bid proposals and prepares or assists in preparing cost estimate.

15. Requests quotes, specs, drawings and catalogues of materials and equipment from suppliers.

16. Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
