Core duties
Handle transactions : Operate cash registers or point-of-sale (POS) systems to scan and total purchases, accept various forms of payment, and provide accurate change and receipts.
Customer service : Greet customers, answer questions, and help resolve issues or complaints.
Manage money : Count the cash in the register at the beginning and end of a shift to ensure it balances with sales data.
Process returns : Handle customer returns, refunds, or exchanges according to company policy.
Maintain the checkout area : Keep the checkout area clean, organized, and stocked with necessary supplies.
Additional responsibilities
Upselling and cross-selling : Inform customers about current promotions or suggest additional products.
Stocking and merchandising : Assist with stocking shelves and rotating merchandise when not at the register.
Security and reporting : Follow security procedures to prevent theft and report any equipment or system issues.
Gift wrapping : Offer services like gift-wrapping purchases.
Required skills and qualifications
