Head of Finance
We are seeking an experienced Head of Finance to build and lead the finance function for our growing veterinary tech startup. This is a strategic and hands‑on role for someone who can set up robust financial systems from scratch, ensure compliance across international entities, and provide insights to guide business decisions. The Head of Finance will oversee all aspects of financial management, including modeling and budgeting, reporting, and process implementation, for both our U.S. parent company and our Philippine subsidiary.
Role Overview
This position will set up comprehensive financial controls, manage multi‑jurisdiction reporting, and serve as the strategic financial advisor to the CEO and leadership team.
Key Responsibilities
- Financial Modeling & Planning : Develop and maintain comprehensive financial models, budgets, and forecasts to guide the company’s growth. Continuously update the financial model for our veterinary tech business to inform fundraising, investments, and strategic planning.
- Reporting & Compliance : Prepare, analyze, and submit accurate financial reports for multiple entities (Delaware C‑Corp and Philippine SEC‑registered company). Ensure compliance with GAAP / IFRS and regulatory requirements in both jurisdictions, manage consolidation, and file timely tax returns and regulatory reports.
- Financial Systems & Processes : Design and implement financial systems and processes from the ground up. Establish strong controls for cash flow management, expense tracking, disbursements, revenue recognition, and inventory accounting.
- Tools & Technology : Oversee the use of accounting and ERP tools, manage QuickBooks for the U.S. entity, and implement an enterprise system such as Britana ERP for the Philippine entity’s accounting, inventory, and operations.
- Budgeting & Cost Management : Lead the annual budgeting process and monitor budget vs. actuals. Implement cost control measures and optimize spend across the organization.
- Strategic Financial Insight : Provide strategic financial advice to the CEO and leadership team. Analyze financial data to generate insights on business performance, unit economics, and ROI of initiatives. Support fundraising activities with financial projections and due diligence preparation.
- Compliance & Audit : Coordinate external audits and liaise with auditors and tax advisors in both the U.S. and the Philippines. Maintain documentation and controls to uphold the integrity of financial data.
- Team Leadership (when appropriate) : Hire and mentor a small finance / accounting team or manage external accounting partners. Foster a culture of accuracy, efficiency, and business partnership within the finance function.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education : Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field. CPA or CMA preferred; MBA or advanced degree is a plus.Experience : Proven experience (5+ years) in finance / accounting roles, with at least a couple of years in a leadership or head of finance capacity. Startup or high‑growth company experience is strongly preferred.Financial Modeling & Analysis : Exceptional modeling skills and experience in strategic planning for revenue projections, runway / cash burn, and scenario analysis, especially in a SaaS or tech startup context.Reporting & Compliance Knowledge : Solid understanding of U.S. and Philippine accounting principles and compliance. Experience in preparing financial statements and management reports for multiple jurisdictions.Systems & Tools : Hands‑on experience implementing or managing financial systems / software. Proficiency in QuickBooks (U.S.) and ERP systems such as Britana (Philippines).Process Improvement : Demonstrated ability to set up financial controls and processes, including accounts payable / receivable, expense management, treasury, and inventory tracking.Analytical & Strategic Skills : Strong analytical skills with a data‑driven approach. Ability to translate financial data into actionable insights and support fundraising and investor relations.Communication & Leadership : Excellent communication skills, able to present financial information clearly to non‑financial stakeholders and executives. Leadership ability to grow and manage a finance team.Other : High proficiency in Excel, familiarity with international banking, payroll, and compliance procedures, and a passion for the veterinary / pet health sector.Benefits
