Domestic Helper to Hong Kong

Position Title : Domestic Helper / Foreign Domestic Worker (FDW)

Location : Hong Kong (employed under a Standard Employment Contract for Domestic Helpers)

Reports to : Employer / Household Head

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Depending on the household’s needs, duties may include :

1. Household Chores

Cleaning, sweeping, mopping, dusting, and vacuuming the home

Washing, ironing, and folding clothes

Organizing and maintaining cleanliness of the home

Care of household furniture and appliances

2. Cooking and Food Preparation

Preparing and cooking daily meals according to employer’s preferences

Grocery shopping and managing kitchen supplies

Cleaning kitchen and dining areas

3. Childcare

Taking care of children (feeding, bathing, preparing school uniforms, helping with homework)

Dropping off and picking up children from school or activities

Supervising and engaging children in play or educational activities

4. Elderly Care (if applicable)

Assisting elderly or disabled family members with daily routines (bathing, dressing, medication reminders)

Accompanying them to medical appointments

Providing companionship

5. Pet Care (if applicable)

Feeding, bathing, and walking pets

Cleaning pet areas

Working Conditions

Live-in requirement : Domestic helpers must live in their employer’s residence (as per Hong Kong law)

Contract duration : 2 years (renewable)

Rest days : At least 1 day off per week

Public holidays and annual leave : As per the Employment Ordinance and standard contract terms

Minimum Requirements

Must be eligible to work in Hong Kong under the FDH visa

Experience in housekeeping, childcare, or caregiving preferred

Ability to speak and understand English (Cantonese or Mandarin is a plus)

Honest, responsible, and able to follow instructions

Other Notes

Employers must provide free food or a food allowance, free accommodation, and medical care.

Domestic helpers are protected under Hong Kong’s Employment Ordinance and the Standard Employment Contract regulated by the Immigration Department.
