Purpose of the Role :

The Forestry Associate (Plantation Establishment & Management) will support the CBFM Peoples Organization in planning, establishing, and managing bamboo plantations. This role focuses on providing technical assistance, hands-on fieldwork, and operational support to ensure sustainable plantation practices, while promoting bamboo as a resource for livelihood, environmental protection, and climate resilience.

The main role of a forestry associate in bamboo plantation is to support the sustainable management, development, and productivity of bamboo resources. He / she promotes ecological stewardship through monitoring of soil health, water conservation, and biodiversity within the plantation. He / she is expected to assist in site preparation, planting, and maintenance of bamboo stands.

He / she conducts field surveys to assess bamboo growth, health, and yield as well as maintain records for plantation performance and resource planning. Knows how to conduct time-in-motion experiments. Able to identify daily gaps and challenges. Able to recognize targets vs. accomplishments.

Here's how you would make an impact :

• Assist in site preparation, nursery operations, and bamboo seedling propagation.
• Support the layout, planting, and maintenance of bamboo plantations.
• Implement soil conservation, water management, and pest control measures.
• Monitor plantation growth, survival rates, and overall health of bamboo stands.
• Conduct regular field inspections and recommend corrective actions.
• Maintain records of plantation activities, inputs, and outputs.
• Provide hands-on guidance to CBFM members on bamboo cultivation techniques.
• Demonstrate proper planting, weeding, fertilization, and harvesting practices.
• Assist in introducing improved technologies for bamboo plantation management.
• Work closely with CBFM Peoples Organization members to ensure active participation in plantation activities.
• Support training sessions and workshops on bamboo plantation establishment and management.
• Prepare field reports, plantation progress updates, and technical documentation.
• Contribute to monitoring and evaluation activities for plantation performance.
