Job Summary :
The Safety Officer is responsible for ensuring compliance with occupational safety and health (OSH) standards in the workplace. The role involves developing, implementing, and monitoring health and safety policies, conducting regular inspections, and promoting a culture of safety in accordance with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) regulations, particularly those governed by the Bureau of Working Conditions (BWC).
Key Responsibilities :
- Ensure full compliance with the Occupational Safety and Health Standards (OSHS) as prescribed by DOLE.
- Develop and implement health and safety programs, policies, and procedures.
- Conduct regular workplace inspections to identify and eliminate potential safety hazards.
- Investigate accidents and incidents, prepare reports, and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Conduct safety training and orientation for employees, including toolbox meetings and emergency drills.
- Maintain accurate documentation and records of inspections, incidents, trainings, and safety permits.
- Serve as the primary liaison with DOLE, the Bureau of Working Conditions (BWC), and other regulatory agencies concerning OSH matters.
0Submit required reports to DOLE such as Work Accident / Illness Report (WAIR) and Annual Medical Report (AMR), among others.
Monitor the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensure proper safety signage and materials are in place.Assist in the implementation of emergency response procedures and risk assessments.Participate in the Health and Safety Committee and perform secretariat duties if designated.Qualifications :
Must be a DOLE / BWC-certified Safety Officer (at least Safety Officer 2, as per DOLE D.O. 198-18).Completion of the required Basic Occupational Safety and Health (BOSH) or Construction Occupational Safety and Health (COSH) training course from an accredited safety training organization.Preferably a graduate of Engineering, Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Science, or related courses.At least 2 years of relevant experience in a safety-related role.Knowledge of Philippine labor laws and safety regulations.Excellent communication, training, and report-writing skills.Strong attention to detail and ability to enforce safety compliance at all levels.Certifications Required :
Safety Officer Certification from DOLE / BWC (SO1, SO2, SO3, or SO4 depending on the risk classification of the workplace and company size).Valid First Aid Training Certificate (preferably from the Philippine Red Cross or DOH-accredited provider).Other OSH-related certifications are a plus.
