As the Staff Software Architect, you will be the most senior technical authority in our company. You will operate across the entire engineering landscape to ensure our technology strategy is sound, our architecture is world‑class, and our engineering practices are exemplary.
You will provide the ultimate technical stewardship for the organization. In close partnership with executive leadership, you will define and drive our long‑term architectural vision and technology strategy. Your responsibilities will include identifying and resolving our most complex engineering challenges, implementing proactive risk mitigation strategies, and fostering the growth of our senior technical staff through mentorship and high-level design reviews and code reviews.
This role requires hands‑on technical governance, including conducting in‑depth architectural reviews and implementation audits on critical systems to ensure the highest standards of quality and robustness. The ideal candidate will have proven expertise in architecting and maintaining the systemic integrity of large‑scale, eventually consistent distributed systems, ensuring correctness across all use cases and edge conditions.
What You'll Do (Key Responsibilities)
- Technical Oversight & Governance : Provide the ultimate technical oversight for all software architecture, design, and implementation across the company. Establish and govern company‑wide engineering standards, patterns, and best practices.
- Architectural Review : Conduct high‑level, critical reviews of major projects, architectural designs, and technology choices to identify potential risks, performance bottlenecks, security vulnerabilities, and deviations from our long‑term vision.
- Strategic Leadership : Partner with the CTO and other executive leaders to define and evolve the company’s long‑term technology roadmap, ensuring it aligns with business goals and industry trends.
- Mentorship & Guidance : Act as a mentor and guide to our Architects and senior engineering talent. Foster a culture of deep technical expertise, curiosity, and excellence through coaching and knowledge sharing.
- Innovation & Improvement : Act as a catalyst for technical innovation. Champion and lead initiatives to improve system performance, scalability, security, developer productivity, and overall codebase health.
- Problem Solving : Serve as the final point of escalation for the most complex, ambiguous, and challenging technical issues the organization faces, providing clear and decisive guidance.
Who You Are (Qualifications & Experience)
10+ years of experience in software engineering, with a significant track record in software architecture and system design.Proven experience in a senior, cross‑functional technical leadership role (e.g., Distinguished Engineer, Chief Architect, Senior Principal Engineer) within a complex, product‑driven environment.Expert‑level knowledge of distributed systems, microservices architecture, cloud‑native technologies (AWS), and modern data architecture.Experience with distributed eventually consistent systems.Demonstrated ability to influence and guide without direct authority, earning the respect of senior engineers and leadership. However, the Chief Architect will also hold formal authority over technical decisions, with the mandate to block initiatives that do not align with our architectural principles until an appropriate consensus or resolution is reached.Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts clearly and persuasively to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.A pragmatic, first‑principles approach to problem‑solving and a relentless drive for quality and simplification.Preferred
Experience designing and operating large‑scale, high‑availability systems.Deep expertise in event‑driven architectures, API design, serverless architectures and container orchestration (e.g., Kubernetes).Contributions to open‑source projects or a public profile in the engineering community (e.g., tech blogs, conference talks).Seniority level
