The Role
We are seeking a Data Scientist with deep expertise in web analytics, audience segmentation, and AI innovation to join Rappler’s Data and Innovation Team. This role will play a critical part in understanding audience behavior, driving engagement strategies, and leading AI-powered innovations to improve newsroom operations and audience development.
You will work closely with editorial, product, marketing, and data teams to unlock actionable insights, optimize audience funnels, and prototype AI tools that transform how we create, distribute, and monetize content.
Who you are
You are a data-driven innovator with a passion for transforming how audiences engage with content. You have a sharp eye for patterns in data and the creativity to turn insights into action. You’re deeply familiar with web analytics, digital funnels, and audience segmentation, and you’re eager to push boundaries by bringing AI solutions into newsroom operations.
You’re as comfortable diving into data sets and building models as you are collaborating with editors, product managers, and marketing teams to drive strategy. You thrive in fast-paced, entrepreneurial environments where experimentation, learning, and iteration are part of the culture.
Above all, you want your work to make an impact — helping shape the future of journalism, improve audience experience, and build meaningful relationships between Rappler and its readers.
What you will do
- Develop and implement advanced audience segmentation frameworks using behavioral, demographic, and psychographic data.
- Lead AI innovation projects to improve newsroom workflows — e.g., content recommendation systems, automated tagging, personalization, predictive analytics, or editorial tools.
- Build and maintain dashboards and reporting systems that track KPIs such as engagement, retention, conversion, and reader loyalty.
- Conduct deep-dive analyses on web traffic, social media, and platform performance to inform editorial and business strategies.
- Identify, design and execute experiments and programs for audience growth and engagement, aligned with a full funnel approach (from awareness to conversion to loyalty) and utilizing various solutions and technology.
- Run A / B tests and multivariate experiments to optimize user experience, content formats, and calls-to-action across digital touchpoints.
- Collaborate with editors, journalists, product managers, and engineers to translate insights into audience development strategies.
- Stay ahead of industry trends in AI, ML, and analytics and actively experiment with new tools to enhance newsroom operations.
- Support capacity-building across the organization by training teams on data literacy, web analytics tools, and AI capabilities.
