Role Overview
The Marine Insurance Business Development Manager for Marine Insurance is responsible for driving growth within the marine insurance portfolio through strategic client acquisition, relationship management, and market development. This role combines business development and marine insurance broking, providing tailored risk and insurance solutions to maritime clients while strengthening market presence and industry partnerships.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree or diploma in Maritime Studies, Insurance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- At least 5 years of experience in marine insurance broking, underwriting, or a related role within the maritime or insurance industry.
- Demonstrated experience in business development, sales, or account management within the insurance or maritime sector.
- Strong knowledge of marine insurance products, including P&I, hull and machinery, cargo, and maritime liabilities.
- Holder of a Philippine Insurance Commission Licensing Exam Certification ; additional marine insurance or professional certifications are an advantage.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and relationship management skills.
Duties & Responsibilities
Business Development
Identify, develop, and pursue new business opportunities within the marine insurance market to achieve growth and revenue targets.Build and maintain strong relationships with shipowners, charterers, commodity traders, P&I Clubs, and other key maritime stakeholders.Develop and execute strategic business development and marketing initiatives to expand the marine insurance portfolio.Work closely with management to monitor market trends, assess competitive dynamics, and support the development of new or enhanced insurance solutions aligned with client needs.Marine Insurance Broking
Manage and grow a portfolio of marine insurance clients, ensuring high-quality service delivery and long-term client retention.Analyze clients risk profiles and insurance requirements to structure customized coverage solutions, including P&I, hull and machinery, cargo, and other maritime risks.Negotiate with local and international underwriters to secure competitive terms, conditions, and coverage.Handle fronting arrangements and coordinate reinsurance support to ensure compliant, cost-effective, and robust insurance programs.Coordinate closely with the Claims Department to facilitate efficient claims handling and timely resolution.Stay current on global marine insurance developments, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices to provide informed and value-adding advice to clients.Client and Market Engagement
Represent the organization at industry events, conferences, and client meetings to promote marine insurance expertise and capabilities.Act as a trusted advisor to clients by providing guidance on risk management, compliance, and loss prevention strategies.
