Ready to do work that actually excites you?
We are seeking mid to senior Structural / Mechanical Design Drafters to develop 3D design models and 2D deliverables for mineral processing plants and materials handling facilities. This role focuses on steel structures and mechanical platework, delivering constructible models and clear documentation for heavy industrial equipment and plant infrastructure—working closely with structural and mechanical engineers and multidisciplinary project teams.
What You'll Do:
You'll be the kind of person who:
3D modelling (steelwork & mechanical)
- Develop and maintain accurate 3D models for:
- Structural steelwork: vibrating screen and crusher support structures, tank top steelwork, conveyor galleries, transfer stations, platforms, stairs, handrails, gantries, and access structures.
- Crushing and screening infrastructure: jaw and cone crushing stations, wet and dry vibrating screen stations, screen support frames, underpans, oversize chutes, and feed/discharge arrangements.
- Conveying systems: conveyor setout, transfer points, gravity take-up systems, stockpile feed and reclaim interfaces.
- Platework / mechanical items: bins, hoppers, chutes, rock boxes, feedboxes, underpans, oversize chutes, tanks, launders (open and pipe), feed and distribution boxes, and related slurry handling platework.
- Apply project modelling standards, naming conventions, and model organisation to support efficient coordination and downstream detailing.
- 2D deliverables & documentation
- Produce high-quality 2D deliverables using AutoCAD and outputs from Autodesk Advance Steel, including:
- General arrangements, setouts, sections, and details for steelwork and platework.
- Fabrication-oriented drawings as required by the project scope (e.g., assemblies, single part details where applicable).
- Drawing packages suitable for construction, aligned to project drafting standards and client requirements.
- Maintain drawing registers, revision control, and issue packages in line with document management workflows.
- Setout, layout & coordination
- Support plant setout and arrangement including crusher station layouts, screen station arrangements, conveyor alignment, transfer station interfaces, and stockpile reclaim concepts. designer.docx
- Coordinate interfaces with civil/concrete, piping, mechanical equipment, and E&I, resolving clashes and maintaining constructability and maintenance access.
- Interpret and incorporate vendor information, engineering markups, and project design criteria into models/drawings.
- Quality & delivery
- Participate in model and drawing reviews, address markups efficiently, and support internal QA checks.
- Assist with responding to RFIs/design queries and updating deliverables as required.
- Required experience & capability (mid / senior)
- Demonstrated drafting/modelling experience on mining, mineral processing, materials handling, or heavy industrial projects (preferred).
- Solid understanding of steelwork detailing fundamentals, platework design intent, and typical plant constructability requirements (access, clearances, maintenance).
- Strong ability to work from GA layouts, engineering sketches, vendor drawings, and markups to produce accurate models and deliverables.
- Comfortable working to deadlines and managing multiple deliverables across concurrent projects.
- (Senior level) Ability to guide/mentor other designers and help lift drawing/model quality across the team
