JOB OVERVIEW
We are seeking an experienced Senior Production Estimator to oversee the preparation of accurate production estimates, Bills of Quantities (BOQs), and tender support for commercial and industrial construction projects in Australia.
This role will be responsible for leading and mentoring the estimating team, ensuring estimating accuracy, managing project handovers from Sales/Tender teams, and supporting the successful delivery of build-ready project estimates. The ideal candidate has strong experience in Australian construction estimating, Bluebeam/Excel, and quantity take-offs, with the ability to manage multiple projects while maintaining quality and efficiency.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Estimating & Production Oversight
• Lead & conduct the preparation of production estimates, quantity take-offs, and Bills of Quantities (BOQs) for commercial and industrial construction projects.
• Oversee the transition of won projects from Sales or Tender teams and convert approved quotes into build-ready production estimates.
• Perform and review detailed quantity take-offs from drawings, plans, specifications, and engineering documents.
• Validate project scope against contract documentation, approved drawings, and specifications.
• Ensure all estimates accurately define materials, labour, subcontractor requirements, and project costs.
• Identify key assumptions, exclusions, risks, and cost drivers during the estimating process.
• Support tender submissions during high-volume or complex project bids.
Team Leadership & Quality Assurance
• Lead, mentor, and support a team of Estimators and BOQ Surveyors to ensure high-quality and consistent outputs.
• Review, validate and conduct Sales estimates and quotations for accuracy, buildability, and compliance with project requirements.
• Establish estimating standards, processes, and best practices across the team.
• Provide technical guidance on Australian construction drawings, specifications, and cost modelling.
• Manage workload allocation to ensure deadlines and tender schedules are met.
• Coordinate with internal stakeholders including Sales, Tender, Engineering, and Project Delivery teams
Process Improvement & Collaboration
• Improve estimating workflows, documentation standards, and internal processes.
• Support the development of estimating templates, databases, and cost benchmarks.
• Work closely with senior management to ensure profitable project delivery and risk mitigation.
• Provide leadership support during complex, high-value commercial and industrial projects
Requirements
• Previous experience in a Senior Estimator or Team Lead role is highly preferred.
• Minimum 3-5 years of experience in Australian industrial or non-residential construction.
• 3+ years of experience as a Production Estimator, BOQ Surveyor, or Construction Estimator.
• Demonstrated experience leading or managing a team of Production Estimators
• Strong expertise in quantity take-offs, BOQ preparation, and cost estimation.
• Advanced proficiency in Bluebeam and Microsoft Excel (essential).
• Experience in using Hubspot and Nexvia is an advantage.
• Strong knowledge of Australian construction standards, commercial drawings, and specifications.
• Proven ability to review estimates and ensure cost accuracy and buildability.
• Excellent leadership, organization, and project management skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and team workloads simultaneously.
• Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field (preferred).
