Zepz is looking for a driven and detail-oriented leader to support our Financial Operations - Payout Team of accountants. This role sits within the Product domain, but works very closely with Finance, acting as a team lead for our reconciliation analysts.
This team’s core mission is to ensure that we accurately represent money owed to or from our payout partners in our financial statements. As an Assistant Manager, you will supervise the day-to-day team output, workload allocation, and issue escalation, while ensuring service levels and quality standards are met.
You will act with integrity and build trust as you contribute to the company’s technical direction, ensuring we are doing right by every user in paying out their funds.
What you bring to the table
Experience: Significant reconciliation experience with proven understanding of accounting principles and journals.
Team Management: Proven experience in leading teams of reconciliation analysts in FinTech, financial services, payments, or other high transaction volume industries.
Qualifications: Professional or commercial qualifications are an advantage.
Technical Skills: Experience managing and analyzing large structured and unstructured datasets, including using SQL and other reporting analytics tools.
Tools: Advanced MS Office/Google Suite tools capability, specifically Excel. Experience with reconciliation tools (e.g. Autorek) is a bonus.
Communication: Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
Operator at Heart: You have experience in financial accounting but are constantly seeking to automate, improve, and deliver for the end customer.
Ruthless Prioritizer: You can execute under pressure whilst meeting deadlines and are comfortable putting tasks on the back burner to focus on the highest impact work.
Problem Solver: You don’t stop asking “why” until you understand the root cause of an issue.
Collaborative: You have a proven track record of working effectively with people at all levels both internal and external to the business.
Flexible: You have the ability to work in a flexible manner to meet changing priorities and thrive in ambiguous, fast-paced contexts.
What you will focus on
Team Leadership: Leading a reconciliation team to deliver accurate representation of money owed to or from our Payout Partners, fostering a culture of clear accountability for deliverables and leading by example.
Operational Excellence: Working with internal stakeholders to improve the overall customer experience.
Core Reconciliation Competencies: Reviews output quality, monitors unresolved items, challenges aged breaks and ensures robust closure discipline.
System & Tool Mastery: Uses dashboards, workflow tools, capacity trackers and exception reports to manage team deliverables.
Strategy & Leadership: Leads team routines, coaches staff, supports hiring process and onboarding. Promotes accountability and service culture.
Risk & Compliance: Ensure team compliance with policies and mandatory training, review controls and issue remediation actions.
Problem Solving & Root Cause Analysis: Validates root cause quality, priorities recurring issues and coordinates fixes with relevant stakeholders.
Communication & Stakeholder Management: Handles escalations, aligns the team with stakeholders and ensures concise reporting of risks, blockers and actions.
Audit Support: Supporting the Manager in leading internal and external audits.
Process Improvement: Developing the team’s capability to ensure accuracy and timeliness of key tasks and collaborating with the Manager to automate and improve processes.
