We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Estimator to join our growing team, supporting the delivery of a gas power plant project. You will be responsible for preparing accurate and detailed cost estimates across mechanical systems such as turbines, pipework, and auxiliary equipment.
This role involves working closely with project managers, engineers, procurement teams, and subcontractors to ensure reliable and competitive pricing strategies. You’ll play a key role in both tendering and project planning phases, with exposure to high-profile infrastructure developments in the energy sector.

The client is an Australian-based, family-owned steel fabrication and construction company servicing the mining, oil and gas, infrastructure, and building industries, among others. Built from the ground up in Australia over 45 years, we proudly service Australia and the Pacific Region.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare mechanical cost estimates
- Interpret technical drawings, specifications, and project documentation
- Source and negotiate supplier and subcontractor pricing
- Analyse material, labour, and equipment costs
- Support tender submissions with cost breakdowns and feasibility data
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and senior management to ensure estimates reflect all aspects of project scope
- Maintain estimating tools and cost data libraries
- Identify opportunities for value engineering and cost savings
Requirements
What You Bring
We’re looking for someone who:
- 5+ years’ experience as a Mechanical Estimator, preferably in gas, energy, or heavy industrial sectors
- Tertiary qualification in Mechanical Engineering or relevant trade qualification (Cert III)
- Proficient in planning, organising, and working to timelines and schedules
- Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite
- Strong knowledge of gas power plant systems, mechanical construction, and installation methods is an advantage
- Clear understanding of appropriate Australian Codes and Standards, OH&S Codes and Standards is a plus
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Ability to assess and manage risk in cost planning
