Job Description

Purpose of the Position

We are seeking an Accountant to join our Finance team at Zambrero, headquartered in Sydney.

In this role, you will be responsible for managing and reporting financial information for the company, with a focus on financial reporting and tax compliance . Reporting to the Senior Accountant, with a dotted line to the GM Finance, you will ensure our day-to-day financial operations run smoothly and provide insights to support strategic decision-making and business growth.

This is a hands-on role where you will handle everything from month-end processes to preparing management reports — an excellent opportunity for a proactive finance professional to make an impact in a mission-driven business .

Position Functions

Financial Reporting

Prepare accurate and timely monthly financial statements (Profit & Loss and Balance Sheet) and management reports, including relevant commentary on variances for our corporate-run restaurants.

Manage the month-end close process by posting journals, accruals, and general ledger balances, ensuring financial results accurately reflect the company’s performance each period.

Reconciliations

Perform regular reconciliations of bank accounts, credit card statements, and general ledger accounts to ensure the accuracy of financial records.

Accounts Receivable

Monitor debtor accounts, investigate discrepancies, and liaise with franchisees or store managers to resolve outstanding balances promptly.

Fixed Asset Management

Manage fixed asset accounting and reporting, including capitalisation, disposals, and depreciation schedules, ensuring compliance with accounting standards.

Tax Compliance

Ensure full compliance with all tax obligations and statutory reporting.

Prepare and lodge Business Activity Statements (BAS) and Instalment Activity Statements (IAS) for both Australia and New Zealand.

Process Improvement

Identify and contribute to improvements in financial systems and processes to increase efficiency and accuracy.

Leverage technology (e.g., ERP or accounting software such as Pronto or Xero ) to automate routine tasks, enhance reporting capabilities, and support the growing scale of the business.

Financial Controls

Uphold robust internal controls and ensure all finance activities comply with company policies and industry best practices.

Monitor the effectiveness of finance software and tools in managing data and reporting accuracy.

Ensure data integrity and confidentiality at all times.

Proactively resolve issues as they arise and escalate any risks or irregularities to the Senior Accountant.

Requirements

Essential Requirements

Minimum 1+ year of experience in a similar accounting position.

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (required).

Intention to commence or currently pursuing a CA or CPA qualification (highly preferred).

Intermediate Excel skills , including pivot tables and graphs.

Knowledge of general accounting principles , regulatory standards, and compliance requirements.

Strong ability to prioritise workload during peak periods and month-end cycles.

Proven ability to meet strict deadlines with accuracy and attention to detail.
