Role Overview : The Head of Commercial leads ABI’s Commercial Team—an energetic group of engineers responsible for quantity surveying, cost planning, and bid management for MEPF and Auxiliary systems. This role ensures commercial accuracy, competitive bid strategies, and profitability across all projects. The Head of Commercial drives commercial excellence by integrating engineering insights, cost discipline, and client-centered value into every proposal and contract.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and develop the Commercial Team, ensuring alignment with ABI’s business objectives and culture of agility, boldness, and innovation.
- Develop and implement commercial strategies that strengthen ABI’s competitive position in the market.
- Partner with Design, Procurement, and Operations to ensure cost and value integration from design through delivery.
- Oversee quantity surveying for MEPF and Auxiliary systems, ensuring accuracy of BOQ and BOM outputs.
- Validate cost estimates and maintain standard cost databases and benchmarking references.
- Review project budgets, forecasts, and financial reports to ensure profitability and cost efficiency.
- Lead the preparation and submission of bids and tenders, ensuring accuracy, competitiveness, and compliance with client requirements.
- Evaluate risks, commercial terms, and contract conditions prior to submission.
- Coordinate with stakeholders for bid clarifications, technical reviews, and negotiation strategies.
- Review and advise on contract terms to safeguard ABI’s interests.
- Ensure commercial compliance and proper documentation throughout the project life cycle.
- Resolve commercial issues in collaboration with project and legal teams.
- Drive standardization and automation of commercial processes and templates.
- Generate commercial insights and reports to guide pricing strategies and margin improvement.
- Support capability building across teams on cost awareness and commercial acumen.
Qualifications
Licensed Engineer (Mechanical, Electrical, or Civil)Minimum of 15 years of experience in quantity surveying, estimating, or commercial management in the construction or MEPF industryStrong background in BOQ / BOM preparation, bid management, and contract negotiationProficient in interpreting and reviewing MEPF design drawings and specificationsWorking knowledge of basic MEPF design principles to support accurate quantity take-offs and cost validationProven leadership experience managing cross-functional technical teamsExcellent analytical, negotiation, and communication skillsProficiency in cost estimation tools and MS Office suiteKey Performance Indicators (KPIs)
