We are seeking an experienced accountant who wants to apply their skills in a dynamic, software-focused environment. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure that our PlumAccounting platform delivers accurate and reliable financial results. You will use your accounting expertise to review reports, reconcile data, and identify discrepancies while also learning and applying quality assurance (QA) processes such as system change review, bug documentation, and regression testing. This role offers the opportunity to stay rooted in accounting while gaining hands-on experience in software testing and product improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Data Validation & Reconciliation
- Review and validate accounting data and reports in both live and development environments.
- Verify journal entries, general ledger mappings, and account balances for accuracy.
- Reconcile imported data from integrated systems to ensure proper mapping and completeness.
- Prepare and reconcile P&L statements to confirm integration data matches source records.
- Evaluate accounting processes, system workflows, and reports to verify alignment with GAAP standards
Quality Assurance & Testing
- Participate in regression testing to ensure new features or updates do not introduce accounting errors.
- Test new accounting features for compliance with standard accounting principles.
- Document discrepancies with clear reproduction steps for the QA and development teams.
- Provide accounting-focused insights during system changes and software releases.
Process & Workflow Auditing
- Audit core accounting workflows such as AP / AR aging, bank reconciliations, and journal entries.
- Compare PlumAccounting functionality with competitor systems (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite, Xero) to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Maintain and update documentation for accounting processes and QA testing steps.
- Review and refine internal SOPs from both an accounting and QA perspective.
Collaboration & Communication
- Translate client accounting feedback into actionable tickets for developers.
- Participate in meetings with developers, QA, and implementation teams to ensure accounting accuracy is maintained.
- Act as a liaison between accounting operations and the software development team to bridge business context with technical execution.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA / CMA required).
- 3+ years of hands-on accounting experience, ideally with exposure to accounting systems.
- Strong understanding of GL, AP / AR, P&L, and journal entries.
- Proficient in Excel / Google Sheets for reconciliation and reporting.
- Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
- No prior QA experience required we will train you on QA tools, bug reporting, and testing methods.
Nice to Have
- Familiarity with accounting / ERP systems such as QuickBooks, NetSuite, or Xero.
- Experience in data reconciliation across systems.
- Exposure to QA or software testing processes.
