Job description
Qualifications :
Must hold a valid certification such as AHIMA CCS, RHIT, RHIA, or an AAPC credential relevant to the patient type.
Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management or a related Allied Health field is required; a Master's degree is preferred.
A minimum of 3 to 5 years of hands-on experience in medical record coding within an acute care setting, along with at least 3 years of experience in training medical coders.
Preferably certified as an AHIMA-Approved ICD-10-CM / PCS Trainer or an AAPC Certified Instructor.
Willingness to work onsite is essential.
Additional Skills :
Proficient in delivering training to adult learners, with sensitivity to the cultural diversity of training groups.
Strong understanding of diagnosis coding guidelines, including facility-specific policies, official Coding Clinics, and other applicable regulatory standards.
Skilled in assigning appropriate PCS and CPT codes, as required.
Working knowledge of the Inpatient Prospective Payment System (IPPS) and Outpatient Prospective Payment System (OPPS), as applicable.
Capable of reviewing documentation, codes, procedures, APCs, and / or DRG assignments for accuracy and completeness, and escalating discrepancies to the appropriate supervisor or manager.
Functional knowledge of facility Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems, coding encoders, and other relevant support software.
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships in a professional setting.
Detail-oriented with the ability to maintain focus and deliver work with high accuracy.
Proficient in using office equipment, automated systems, and software applications required for the role.
