Job description

POSITION TITLE : Student Information Systems Analyst

EXEMPTION STATUS :   Exempt

REPORTS TO :   Director of Data Services

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT : 12 months

Primary Purpose

Provide system management, administration, and overall maintenance of student information systems, other district decision support and information management technologies. Act as a liaison with software vendors to coordinate technical support of system / database applications. Author and provide analytical reports for decision-making for district and campus administration as needed. Coordinate knowledge management technologies into information management system. Facilitate the PEIMS student data submissions.

Qualifications

Education / Certification

Bachelor’s Degree in information technology or business-related field

Valid Texas Driver’s License with appropriate insurance coverage

Special Knowledge / Skills

Basic knowledge of relational databases and building SQL views and reports

Excellent communication (verbal and written), listening, interpretation, and technical documentation skills

Proficient in Microsoft technologies for productivity, desktops, PC-based computers, and peripherals

Proficient skills in training on business systems and data analysis

Creative ability to produce training related publications

Ability to use desktop publishing and multimedia presentation software to communicate and teach

Experience

Two years information systems experience providing data and systems analysis, project management, research, and application support for business applications

Major Responsibilities and Duties

Financial Ethics

  • Comply with policies and procedures; internal controls; and laws as they pertain to district operations.
  • Promptly report to the immediate supervisor or Superintendent any suspected violations of the code of ethics, such as theft, fraud, or any other dishonest act in the workplace.
  • Act in an ethical and honest manner in all business transactions of the district.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all data, files and general financial information of the district.
  • Safeguard against unauthorized access to assigned computer system and electronic data.

Data Management

  • Assist with the collection, integration, and formatting of all data required for PEIMS submissions according to PEIMS Data Standards.
  • Provide data analysis and report extracts using report creation software.
  • Extend information resources to the third party software programs and the Internet.
  • Assist in ensuring supplies and materials for reporting requirements.
  • Assist in the research of student information system products, implement and provide support.
  • Process district reports, including : report cards, transcripts, and student schedules.
  • Technical Support

  • Provide technical support to student system users for printing, access, reporting, and / or user interface.
  • Provide account administration for system users and maintain security of information systems.
  • Provide support to campus staff in needed areas, including : electronic grade book, special education programs, standardized test programs, etc.
  • Assist with system backups, upgrades, patches, and service releases.
  • Assist campus staff in the development of the campus master schedules.

  • Keep informed of and comply with laws, policies and regulations concerning job function.
  • Attend professional growth activities and maintain expertise in management information systems, decision support systems, database technologies, business intelligence applications, and knowledge management tools.

  • Tools / Equipment Used : Standard office equipment including computer, peripherals, and telephone
  • Posture : Prolonged sitting; occasional kneeling / squatting, bending / stooping, pushing / pulling, walking, twisting
  • Motion : Frequent repetitive hand motions; frequent keyboarding and use of mouse, wrist flexion / extension
  • Lifting : Lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds without assistance, 30-55 pounds with assistance, and more than 55 pounds with appropriate assistance
  • Environment : Work is performed in an office setting; occasional irregular and / or prolonged hours; occasional districtwide and statewide travel
  • Mental Demands : Maintain emotional control under stress; work with frequent interruptions
