The Assistant Category Manager supports the Category Manager in developing, managing, and growing the Non-Food category covering Personal Care, Home Care, Cleaning Products, and other household items. The role assists in analyzing market trends, managing supplier relationships, monitoring product performance, and implementing category strategies that drive sales, profitability, and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
Category Management & Strategy
- Assist in developing category strategies, assortment plans, and promotional calendars for Personal Care, Home Care, and Cleaning product categories.
- Conduct market research and competitor analysis to identify trends, pricing opportunities, and product gaps.
- Monitor category performance and recommend actions to achieve sales, margin, and inventory targets.
Product & Assortment Management
Support in product selection, listing, delisting, and SKU rationalization.Work closely with suppliers to expand assortments and ensure timely introduction of new products.Coordinate with Marketing for product launches, promotions, and merchandising initiatives.Supplier & Vendor Management
Assist in negotiating with vendors on pricing, payment terms, and promotional support.Maintain strong relationships with suppliers and ensure compliance with company policies and standards.Monitor vendor performance and address concerns related to product quality, delivery, and service.Sales & Inventory Monitoring
Track daily, weekly, and monthly sales performance of all assigned categories.Monitor inventory levels to ensure product availability, minimize out-of-stock incidents, and reduce slow-moving items.Coordinate with logistics and warehouse teams to manage replenishment and stock movement.Promotions & Merchandising
Assist in planning promotional activities and coordinating with internal teams for execution.Review in-store and online merchandising compliance and ensure products are well-represented.Analyze promotional results and provide insights for improvement.Reporting & Analysis
Prepare regular category reports including sales, profitability, inventory status, and competitor pricing.Provide data-driven recommendations to support strategy development and operational decisions.Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Management, or related field.At least 3 years of experience in Category Management, Buying, Merchandising, or a related role in Retail or FMCG.Experience in Non-Food categories (Personal Care, Home Care, Cleaning products, Household items) is an advantage.Strong analytical skills with proficiency in MS Excel, Google Sheets, and data reporting tools.Excellent communication, negotiation, and vendor management skills.Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
