This is a remote position.
Senior web developer joining our web team. You own end to end delivery on Shopify and WordPress builds (theme work, custom development, integrations, launches, post launch maintenance) and you mentor the rest of the team.
You'll work directly with our Operations Manager and the Account Managers, reporting into the incoming General Manager.
What you'll do
- Lead Shopify theme customisation and new builds (Liquid, Tailwind or custom CSS, JavaScript)
- WordPress development (custom themes, ACF, WooCommerce where applicable)
- Site architecture decisions (staging to production pipeline, theme and brand kit governance, integrations)
- QA process ownership. No site goes live without proper pre launch QA.
- Scope clarification with the AM before work starts. Flag mismatches between sitemap, content, and scope early.
- Time tracking. Every hour against the right project.
- Mentor and code review for our other developer. Raise the standard across the team.
Requirements
You must have
- 5+ years professional web development across Shopify and/or WordPress
- Proven Shopify Liquid expertise with at least 5 live launched custom themes (links required in application)
- Proficient in HTML, CSS (Tailwind preferred), JavaScript (vanilla + modern framework exposure)
- Experience managing Shopify Partners accounts and theme or brand kit governance across multiple client stores
- Git, staging workflows, deployment discipline
- Clear professional written English
- Embraces AI assisted development and modern tooling
- For Philippines candidates: stable internet, daily Port Adelaide overlap
- Competitive and accountable. You'll be measured on project margin, on time delivery, code quality, and how the team you mentor improves. If you're allergic to KPIs or want to ship and disappear without owning the outcome, this isn't your role.
Bonus
- Headless Shopify (Hydrogen, Next.js)
- HubSpot CMS experience
- Performance optimisation (Core Web Vitals)
- AI assisted development workflows (we use AI tooling in our build process)
Benefits
Why this role
We're growing our web capability and raising the standard. You'll be the senior on the team. Your job is to set the bar for code quality, scoping discipline, and project delivery. There's real autonomy. You make architecture calls, not just implement tickets.
What we offer
- Competitive AUD rates pegged to experience
- Live launches every 6 to 8 weeks, volume for skill building
- Real ownership of architectural decisions
- Career path to Tech Lead as we scale
- Professional development budget. Time to learn new things, not just a budget line.
About Refuel
Refuel Creative is a 9.5 year old digital marketing and revenue operations agency based in Port Adelaide, with a distributed specialist team across the Philippines. We connect CRM, advertising, email, and web into one integrated engine for ambitious eCommerce and B2B brands.
We're a HubSpot Solutions Partner, Google Premier Partner, Meta Business Partner, and one of a select few Global Canva Implementation Partners worldwide.
What sets us apart is the depth and length of our client relationships. Our average client stays with us for 3 years, several have been with us the entire 9.5 years we've been in business, and our NPS is +84 with zero detractors. We don't churn clients, because we don't behave like a vendor. We behave like a strategic partner with skin in the game.
We're an AI first, tech heavy agency. We use AI in our delivery, in our internal operations, and in how we support our team. If you want to run projects from a whiteboard and a notepad, this isn't the place for you.
We move fast and you'll learn a lot. Professional development is real here. You'll get time to learn and develop, and you'll learn drinking from a firehose. Our clients are diverse and demanding, and the people who thrive here treat that as the opportunity it is.
For Philippines based candidates, you don't need to work Port Adelaide business hours. We need meaningful daily overlap (typically 4 hours), but our long term goal is 24/7 client support, so candidates who prefer to work later in the Philippines day are particularly welcome.
