ABOUT THE ROLE
We are a $500+ million retail business live on SAP S4 Public cloud which is a green field implementation. This is a high-impact, hands-on role for an experienced SAP FICO Consultant to serve as the primary subject matter expert for our Finance and Accounting organization. The ideal candidate will combine deep technical SAP expertise with strong business acumen and critically the ability to educate and uplift a team with limited prior SAP experience.
You will work directly with our Finance leadership to configure, optimize, and maximize the value of SAP S/4HANA across all financial operations, from general ledger and accounts payable to profitability analysis and financial close.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Implementation & Configuration
• Lead the FICO workstream serve as a primary SAP advisor to the finance leaders and team
• Optimize finance team use of core FICO modules GL, AP, AR, AA, Bank Accounting, Inventory
• Support integration with adjacent third-party retail systems (POS, e-commerce, payment processing, OM, WMS, HR)
• Oversee configuration, data, and process setup aligned with SAP best practices
• Extend current implementation to Canada entity and other business units.
Finance Team Enablement & Training
• Provide as-needed role-based supplemental training programs for accounting staff, and finance managers assuming little to no prior SAP experience
• Assist in creation of accessible documentation, quick-reference guides, and SOPs tailored to retail finance workflows
• Build internal SAP competency to reduce long-term dependence on external consultants
• Support any P1 and P2 issues related to SAP FICO module.
Financial Operations Optimization
• Optimize month-end and year-end financial close processes leveraging S/4HANA automation
• Design and provide technical guidance to SAP developers to build financial reporting using SAP Fiori apps, and SAC
• Design intelligent AR and AP workflows including payment runs, OTC reconciliation, GR/IR and bank reconciliation
• Configure Fixed Asset Accounting to align with depreciation and reporting requirements
• Leverage Profitability Analysis to provide actionable margin and segment reporting for retail leadership
Governance & Compliance
• Ensure FICO configuration supports US GAAP compliance, audit requirements, and internal controls
• Establish authorization and role design best practices in coordination with Basis team
• Maintain configuration documentation, technical specifications and change management logs
• Ensure testing, quality assurance, and go-live readiness
• Manage issues, risks, and stakeholder communications across different entities
• Support external audit activities
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Proven SAP FICO configuration and implementation experience, with at least 2 full end-to-end S/4HANA implementations
• Demonstrated expertise across FI sub-modules GL, AP, AR, Fixed Assets, Bank Accounting, and GL
• Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience with SAP S/4HANA finance and governance processes
• Proven ability to translate complex SAP concepts for non-technical finance audiences
• Experience developing and delivering end-user training programs and documentation
• Solid understanding of financial close processes, and retail (brick and mortar and ecommerce) accounting practices
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Prior experience with retail industry SAP implementations (POS integration, merchandise finance, inventory valuation)
• Exposure to SAP S/4HANA BPC for future forecasting activities
• Experience with SAP SAC (Analytics Cloud) for financial planning and reporting
