Job Summary

The Computer Operator is responsible for monitoring and operating computer systems to ensure smooth and efficient daily operations. This role involves executing scheduled jobs, monitoring system performance, performing routine backups, troubleshooting basic system issues, maintaining accurate operational records, and coordinating with IT support teams to resolve technical incidents. The Computer Operator plays a key role in ensuring system availability, data integrity, and uninterrupted business operations.

Requirements

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

System Operations

• Monitor and operate computer systems, servers, and applications to ensure continuous system availability.
• Execute and monitor scheduled batch jobs and operational processes according to established procedures.
• Verify successful completion of system jobs and investigate failed or delayed processes.
• Perform system startup, shutdown, and restart activities as required.

System Monitoring & Incident Management

• Monitor system consoles, applications, and infrastructure for alerts, errors, and performance issues.
• Respond to operational incidents and escalate unresolved issues to the appropriate support teams.
• Record and track incidents, system events, and operational activities in accordance with company procedures.
• Coordinate with Infrastructure, Network, Database, and Application Support teams during issue resolution.

Operational Support

• Provide first-level operational support for production systems and applications.
• Support scheduled system maintenance, deployments, and production releases.
• Assist in executing standard operating procedures (SOPs) for daily IT operations.
• Ensure operational checklists are completed accurately and on time.

Documentation & Reporting

• Maintain daily operations logs, shift reports, and incident records.
• Prepare and submit operational reports to supervisors and relevant stakeholders.
• Update operational documentation, procedures, and runbooks as needed.

Backup & Process Monitoring

• Monitor scheduled backup jobs and verify successful completion.
• Report backup failures or exceptions and assist in recovery activities when required.
• Perform routine system health checks and validate operational readiness.

Process Improvement

• Identify recurring operational issues and recommend process improvements.
• Assist in the creation and enhancement of operational procedures and documentation.
• Utilize basic scripting knowledge (e.g., UNIX or VB Script) to support or automate routine operational tasks when applicable.

Compliance & Administrative Support

• Adhere to IT security policies, operational standards, and compliance requirements.
• Ensure proper handling of confidential information and system access.
• Participate in shift handovers to ensure seamless 24/7 operational support.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities assigned by the immediate supervisor.
