Position Title: Storage Engineer I
Department: Information Technology
Location: Remote
Shift: Primarily M-F 8-5 Must be willing to work off shifts, nights, weekends as required.
Reports To: Enterprise Storage Manager, IT
Position Summary:
The Storage Engineer I responsibilities include completing work on major, complex projects with full competency. Coordinate with both technical and non-technical staff and vendors on the implementation of complex projects. Perform analysis, diagnosis, and resolution of complex problems on both physical and virtual infrastructure platforms. Recommend, implement and document corrective solutions and preventative measures. Monitor performance metrics within the Data Protection and Storage environment such as disk I/O utilization, bandwidth utilization, processors, port utilization. Participate in evaluation and recommendation of new technology solutions. Provide support and guidance to IT for all Health System and affiliate entities. Document work in the form of policies, standards and knowledge base articles.
This position consists of ensuring solutions are delivered in adherence of defined standards and policy.
The Storage Engineer I position is expected to actively work technical projects as well as provide/receive guidance to/from team members as needed to ensure quality and delivery of work.
This position is expected to work both independently and with various teams across the Mercy Health enterprise.
Responsibilities:
- Provide training and mentoring on technologies to peers and colleagues
- Engage with Vendors for tier 2 and tier 3 troubleshooting on issues identified with providing resolution and remediation
- Evaluate, tests and perform impact analysis for software and firmware updates
- Monitors and tunes the system to achieve optimum performance levels in standalone and multi-tiered environments.
- Conducts system analysis, configuration management and develops improvements for system performance, availability and reliability.
- Provides in-depth diagnosis for storage and backup systems software/hardware failures and develops procedure for working tasks

Position Requirements (Technical Skills):
- 2+ years of experience in Enterprise Storage Engineering
- High understanding of knowledge for Rubrik Backup/Recovery solution
- Working knowledge of de-duplication and compression technologies
- Working knowledge with VMWare VADP and VCB backup APIs
- Working knowledge of EMC PowerMax storage systems
- Working knowledge of Enterprise Dell PowerScale NAS solution
- Working knowledge of Cisco MDX SAN fabric technologies
- Working knowledge of NetApp Data ONTAP AFF storage systems
- High understanding knowledge of virtualized data center architecture and components
- Working knowledge of Unix/Linux Operating system
- Experienced at SAN and NAS storage monitoring and health reporting
- Strong understanding of server backup and recovery methodologies
- Experience with enterprise-class Infrastructure environments
- Able to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
- Ability to author technical documents and create procedure manuals
- Strong interpersonal skills, oral communication skills, and proven analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Strong understanding of the organization’s goals and objectives
- Ability to conduct research into current and future technologies
- Highly self-motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail
- Healthcare knowledge/background including data privacy practices and laws
- Strong customer service orientation
- Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
- On-call availability 7/24 as part of a rotation schedule

Education and Experience:
College diploma or university degree in the field of computer science, telecommunications, information sciences, or related field and/or 2+ years equivalent work experience.
