Chapter Lead - Mobile Engineering (Manila)

ABOUT THE COMPANY
EROAD is a global fleet management technology company, providing GPS tracking, dashcams, compliance automation and driver safety tools to fleet operators across New Zealand, Australia, the Philippines and the USA, and we're growing our mobile engineering capability as we standardise and rewrite architecture across 10+ mobile apps, which is why we're hiring a Chapter Lead - Mobile Engineering to lead that chapter.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
You'll own the technical and people direction of our mobile engineering chapter, split roughly 70/30 between hands-on technical leadership and chapter development.

• Set architectural direction and code quality standards for iOS and Android apps built natively and cross-platform

• Own CI/CD, testing and platform integration practices across the chapter

• Directly manage and develop 5 mobile engineers across squads, including coaching and 1:1s

• Lead recruitment and capability development for the chapter

• Manage performance, including having direct, difficult conversations and running formal processes such as PIPs when needed

• Report into the Domain Chapter Lead and represent mobile engineering across the wider organisation

WHAT YOU NEED
You'll need solid mobile engineering depth and either proven people leadership or strong technical leadership potential.

• 5+ years of professional mobile engineering experience, native (Swift/Kotlin) or cross-platform (React Native, Flutter, KMM)

• At least one app shipped and maintained in a public app store

• Strong knowledge of mobile application architecture, deployment, crash reporting and app analytics

• Familiarity with agile methodologies and product-led squads

• Experience with mobile security, testing, CI/CD and observability practices

• Either strong, proven people leadership experience with generic modern mobile experience (Kotlin, Flutter or similar), or strong individual-contributor mobile engineering experience with leadership potential and hands-on Kotlin Multiplatform (KMM) experience

• Demonstrated ability to have difficult conversations, push back and manage performance, including with people you're close to

• Cross-platform expertise (React Native, Flutter, KMM) is a fine substitute for native-only Swift/Kotlin depth if you're coming in via the strong people leadership path

• Strong technical leadership without formal line-management authority is fine in place of having formally managed a team of around 5, if you bring strong technical depth and KMM experience

• SaaS or connected hardware/mobile integration experience, SwiftUI, Jetpack Compose, MVVM, Redux and mobile CI/CD tools such as Bitrise, Fastlane or AppCenter are all a bonus, not a requirement
