We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of SVP Wholesale Credit Risk

Role Purpose

• Assist the Head of WCR in managing credit assessments/approvals for the Corporate and Institutional Banking (CIB) portfolio.
• Cover the most complex CIB borrowing groups and review various urgent transactions, drawing on comprehensive experience in corporate, project, asset-backed and structured finance across international markets to opine/advise on and constructively challenge very large and complex transactions and business initiatives, which may require enhanced approval levels.
• Communicate effectively with a senior audience and understand wider implications of decisions.
• Exercise credible judgment within short time frames in high-pressure situations and escalate appropriately under high-volume deal flow.
• Promote sound asset quality, and a cautious but competitive and constructive credit culture throughout the corporate lending, MSS trading, underwriting, and portfolio management.
• Support the Head of WCR in managing and developing the Credit Approvals team to ensure sufficient, well-qualified resource.

Principal Accountabilities

• Review and/or provide decision on credit proposals of the CIB book.
• Identify deterioration in CIB credits through the Worry Watch Monitor (WWM) process, identify early warning signs, substandard credits, and emerging risks to maintain a sound portfolio.
• Provide prompt advice and solutions to CIB.
• Act as a primary point of support for the Head of WCR on portfolio management and policy.
• Ensure credit approvals and reviews are completed to the highest standards and in compliance with established policies and procedures, while meeting customer requirements and supporting the Business’ strategic objectives.
• Contribute to the processes, infrastructure, and resources needed to achieve agreed team plans and targets; identify and implement improvements, and collaborate with colleagues to maximize end-to-end integration, effectiveness, and efficiency Increase self-productivity and self-effectiveness in order to deliver on objectives / expectations, in line with CIB strategies and the Bank’s broader values
• Encourage constructive teamwork across WCR, MNL, the region, the group and with external stakeholders. Challenge actions and behaviors that are not consistent with HSBC’s values and best interests of both internal and external clients

Qualifications

• Degree holder in Banking, Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related disciplines.
• Established financial statement analysis, structuring, and credit modeling capability.
• Substantial experience in corporate banking, including a track record in credit risk assessment and approval.
• Sufficient knowledge of corporate banking products to efficiently analyze the appropriateness of transactions and structures to properly approve the credit. A strong background in Corporate Banking and Trade Finance and related fields is preferable.
• Familiarity with the Philippine regulatory environment (BSP) and local market is an advantage.
• Ability to exercise credible judgment within a short time frame in high pressure situations.
• Ability to communicate with senior stakeholders and understand wider implications of decisions.
• Ability to work efficiently and independently under pressure.
