Sports Commercial Director

Job setup: Full time, onsite-BGC

Position Overview

Following our Group's recent strategic investment in a leading sports league in the Southeast Asia region, we are looking for a Commercial Director to build, lead and scale the in house sales team, shape the go to market commercial roadmap, negotiate flagship sponsorship contracts, and deliver multiyear revenue targets for the joint venture.

The ideal candidate is a senior sales executive with an established network across Philippines national advertisers, media agencies and sports marketing ecosystem, and a proven track record personally closing individual high value commercial deals of USD 1 million or above.

📋 Key Responsibilities

1. Develop and execute the 3-year commercial sales & sponsorship strategy for the JV, covering Sports league, streaming platform, broadcast inventory, brand activations, athlete IP commercialization and corporate partnership packages.
2. Build, recruit, coach and lead the local B2B sales and partnership team; set sales quotas, commission frameworks, pipeline management workflows and performance review cycles.
3. Personally lead C level outreach, relationship development and high-stakes contract negotiations with top tier national advertisers, media agencies, brand sponsors and enterprise level commercial partners; own large ticket sponsorship deals.
4. Work cross functionally with product, content operations, finance, legal and marketing teams to design commercial packages, rate cards, sponsorship inventory and activation deliverables.
5. Own revenue forecasting, monthly sales pipeline reviews, quarterly business performance reporting and revenue risk mitigation for the JV’s commercial income streams.
6. Monitor Philippine sports sponsorship, streaming advertising and competitor pricing trends, and continuously refine sales propositions to maximise yield from premium inventory.
7. Drive sponsor retention and multi-year renewal strategies, building long term strategic partnerships beyond one off event level campaigns.
8. Represent the joint venture at key industry events, media forums and stakeholder meetings to raise brand profile in the Philippine sports media marketplace.

🔍 Qualifications

1. Minimum 8–10 years of progressive B2B sales, sponsorship and commercial partnership leadership experience in the Philippines, within sports media, broadcast TV, streaming, advertising or large event marketing industries.
2. Mandatory proven track record: candidate must have personally negotiated and successfully closed individual commercial/sponsorship transactions with a deal value of USD 1,000,000 or higher (candidates will be asked to provide verifiable case references during interviews).
3. Minimum 5 years’ people management experience, having led, built and grown B2B sales or sponsorship teams.
4. Deep rooted existing relationships with senior marketing decision makers at major Philippine national brands, top media buying agencies and sports marketing stakeholders.
5. Hands on experience selling sponsorship packages, broadcast advertising, media rights or large scale brand activation campaigns for live sports properties.
6. Strong financial commercial acumen: capable of deal structuring, pricing negotiation, revenue forecasting and ROI oriented proposal building.
7. Fluent in written and spoken English and Tagalog; executive level presentation and cross cultural negotiation skills.
8. Data driven, target oriented, able to work under high pressure revenue deadlines and manage long sales cycles for large ticket sponsorship agreements.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Direct prior working experience with Philippine sports leagues (PVL, PBA, UAAP, NCAA), national broadcasters or OTT streaming platforms.
2. Existing contacts within Cignal, ABS CBN, GMA or other major Philippine media groups.
3. Experience launching commercial revenue streams for new start up joint venture or green field digital media projects.
4. Knowledge of PPV, AVOD, pre roll / mid roll streaming ad sales and athlete IP monetisation models.
