US Building Systems Engineer – Energy & Tax Analysis - Remote

About PeoplePartners

  • Great careers start with great people — and at PeoplePartners, people come first.
  • We’re a Great Place to Work® certified company connecting talented professionals with exciting opportunities and US businesses. Here, you’ll get more than a role: you’ll gain global exposure, meaningful learning opportunities, and room to grow your career while being part of a vibrant, supportive culture.
  • We believe great work happens when people feel trusted, valued, and connected. If you’re ready to build your career with a team that takes its work seriously — without taking itself too seriously — you’ll feel right at home.

Role Overview

  • Buildings tell a story — and you know how to read the systems behind it.
  • As our Building Systems Engineer – Energy & Tax Analysis, you’ll apply practical engineering knowledge to understand how commercial building systems are designed, how they work together, and how they impact energy consumption.
  • Your work will take you across HVAC and mechanical systems, energy systems and energy efficiency, roofing and other building components, geothermal, and solar systems. You’ll review construction and engineering drawings, investigate technical requirements, perform engineering calculations, and reconcile information from multiple technical sources.
  • You’ll also support technical analysis connected to energy incentives, including 179D, bringing together building-systems knowledge, technical research, and sound engineering judgment.
  • This role is particularly suited to an engineer who understands buildings from a practical systems perspective rather than someone whose experience is primarily centered on cost estimating, quantities, or project costing.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review architectural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing drawings.
  • Interpret construction drawings and identify relevant building systems and components.
  • Review HVAC and mechanical systems.
  • Analyze energy systems and energy-efficiency measures.
  • Review roofing and other building components.
  • Assess geothermal and solar systems where applicable.
  • Analyze how building systems interact and impact energy consumption.
  • Research technical requirements relevant to assigned engineering work.
  • Determine and use authoritative technical sources.
  • Apply relevant engineering codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Perform engineering calculations using information from drawings and specifications.
  • Document technical assumptions, calculations, and conclusions.
  • Reconcile conflicting information across drawings, equipment schedules, and site photographs.
  • Support technical analysis related to energy incentives, including 179D.

Requirements

Required Qualifications (Must Have):

  • 2+ years of relevant engineering or project engineering experience.
  • Engineering background with practical knowledge of building systems and components.
  • Experience reviewing architectural, mechanical, electrical, and/or plumbing drawings.
  • Ability to interpret construction drawings and understand relevant building systems.
  • Experience researching technical requirements and identifying authoritative sources.
  • Experience learning and applying engineering codes, standards, or regulatory requirements.
  • Experience performing engineering calculations using drawings, specifications, or other technical information.
  • Ability to document technical assumptions and conclusions.
  • Ability to reconcile conflicting technical information from multiple sources.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Mechanical Engineering background.
  • Licensed Engineer.
  • Strong practical building-systems experience.
  • Experience with HVAC and mechanical systems.
  • Experience with energy systems and energy efficiency.
  • Knowledge of roofing and other building components.
  • Exposure to geothermal systems.
  • Exposure to solar systems.
  • Understanding of how building systems interact and impact energy consumption.
  • Familiarity with 179D.

Why Join PeoplePartners?

  • At PeoplePartners, you’ll have the opportunity to turn your engineering background into specialized experience while supporting work for the US market.
  • You’ll expand your exposure to commercial building systems, energy efficiency, technical engineering analysis, and energy-related incentives, developing capabilities that can add a valuable new dimension to your engineering career.
  • You’ll also be part of our Great Place to Work® certified, people-first culture, with opportunities to learn, grow, connect, and take part in PeoplePartners employee engagement activities.
  • It’s a chance to gain global exposure, deepen your technical expertise, and grow your career alongside people who value great work and genuine connection.
  • Ready to put your engineering knowledge to work where building systems, energy, and technical analysis come together? Apply with PeoplePartners and show us what you can bring to the role.
