Job description
The Pharmaceutical Brand Manager is responsible for developing and executing brand strategies and integrated marketing programs that drive sales growth, market development, contribution margin, and sustainable brand performance.
The role combines market and customer analysis, brand planning, commercial strategy, marketing program development, financial management, and execution monitoring. It translates market insights and business opportunities into effective brand initiatives, working closely with Sales and cross-functional teams to ensure strong strategy-to-execution alignment.
The role will collaborate with Segment Heads, Sales, Sales Force Effectiveness (SFE), Sales Training, Medical/Regulatory/Access-related functions, Supply Chain, principals, Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), and Key Accounts to strengthen brand performance and achieve business objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Brand Strategy, Market Analysis & Business Planning
  • Develop and implement brand strategies based on market trends, customer needs, competitive activity, and business opportunities.
  • Conduct market and segment analysis to identify opportunities for growth, customer penetration, and brand development.
  • Develop and maintain brand business plans, including objectives, strategies, measures, priorities, and execution plans.
  • Develop integrated marketing communication (IMC) strategies and programs aligned with brand and commercial objectives.
  • Evaluate relevant channels and incorporate insights from Sales and other commercial stakeholders into marketing plans.
  • Provide recommendations on product pricing, promotional materials, packaging, and other brand-related initiatives.
  • Conduct post-marketing surveillance and utilize market intelligence to refine brand strategies and programs.
  • Monitor competitor activities, market developments, and customer trends relevant to assigned brands.
2. Brand & Commercial Performance Management
  • Monitor and analyze sales and market performance across territories, districts, divisions, segments, channels, and other relevant dimensions.
  • Track customer penetration, product performance, field activity, product knowledge, and implementation of marketing programs.
  • Identify performance gaps, business risks, and growth opportunities through data analysis and market insights.
  • Manage assigned brand/segment financials and contribute to achievement of sales, profitability, and contribution margin objectives.
  • Monitor brand P&L and ensure appropriate allocation of resources toward priority business opportunities.
  • Participate in business reviews and monitor the implementation and effectiveness of approved brand tactics.
  • Recommend timely corrective actions based on business performance, analytics, and field feedback.
3. Marketing Program Execution & Sales Partnership
  • Develop and execute integrated marketing programs that support Sales in achieving brand and segment objectives.
  • Translate brand strategy into practical and measurable field activities.
  • Monitor execution of marketing programs and assess their impact on customer engagement, market development, and sales.
  • Work closely with Segment Heads and Sales teams to improve execution quality and maximize commercial opportunities.
  • Partner with Sales Force Effectiveness (SFE) to address identified performance gaps and support execution improvement.
  • Collaborate with Sales Training and relevant teams to ensure appropriate product, market, and brand capability development.
  • Participate in performance management and business review processes related to assigned brands and segments.
4. Principal, KOL & Key Account Management
  • Coordinate with principals on brand strategy, business plans, support requirements, marketing programs, and other strategic priorities.
  • Build and maintain professional relationships with relevant Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), Key Accounts, and other external stakeholders.
  • Support networking activities and strategic initiatives that strengthen relationships with important stakeholders.
  • Work with Segment Teams to identify and develop relevant KOL and Key Account opportunities.
  • Prepare and deliver effective brand, market, and business presentations to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure appropriate alignment between principal expectations, commercial priorities, and local market opportunities.
5. Forecasting, Supply & Resource Management
  • Coordinate product forecasting with Segment Heads and Supply Chain based on brand plans, market demand, historical performance, and business assumptions.
  • Monitor product availability and work with Supply Chain to address potential supply issues.
  • Coordinate the availability of promotional and marketing materials required for brand execution.
  • Manage Advertising and Promotion (A&P) spending within the approved budget.
  • Allocate marketing resources toward programs and activities with the strongest expected business impact.
  • Monitor the financial performance and commercial return of brand initiatives.
6. Product & Market Capability Development
  • Develop and deliver product, market, brand strategy, and execution training for relevant Sales and commercial teams.
  • Conduct classroom training, field visits, work-with activities, and other capability-building initiatives as appropriate.
  • Strengthen the Sales team's understanding of product positioning, market opportunities, customer priorities, competitive landscape, and execution priorities.
  • Provide ongoing field support and feedback to improve product and brand execution.
  • Demonstrate strong analytical thinking, collaboration, accountability, communication, and leadership in managing brand priorities.
Qualifications & Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Business Administration, Management, Pharmacy, Life Sciences, or a related field.
  • Solid experience in pharmaceutical brand management, product management, pharmaceutical marketing, or a related commercial function.
  • Experience in the pharmaceutical industry is strongly preferred and will be a key consideration.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and implementing brand or product strategies that support sales and market growth.
  • Strong understanding of market analysis, customer segmentation, competitive analysis, channel evaluation, and marketing program development.
  • Experience in developing business plans, OGSMs, marketing strategies, or similar commercial planning frameworks.
  • Strong financial and business acumen, including experience analyzing sales performance, profitability, contribution margin, and A&P spending.
  • Experience in product forecasting and coordination with Supply Chain is an advantage.
  • Experience working with principals, distributors, KOLs, Key Accounts, or other external stakeholders is an advantage.
  • Strong presentation, communication, negotiation, analytical, and project management skills.
  • Ability to translate market and customer insights into commercially relevant strategies and programs.
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills, particularly with Sales, Supply Chain, Medical/Regulatory, and other commercial functions.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, make data-driven decisions, and drive execution.
