Alternative Investment Operations Director – Derivatives Services

Job Description
Reporting directly to the GBS Service Delivery Head for Retail, Wealth, Alternatives, and Fund Services Operations, the Director is primarily responsible for leading the Derivatives Operations, Support and Solutions teams supporting Asia, North America, and UK to ensure timely, accurate, and effective delivery of services that are in scope. The role also oversees the Securities Lending function for GWAM.
Position Responsibilities
- Provide functional oversight to continuously enable the Derivatives Services teams to efficiently deliver on change initiatives, while continuing to produce consistent, high quality BAU services for both the General Accounts and Asset Management businesses.
- Drive strategic initiatives to deliver risk‑averse scalability, transparency, and synergistic alignment across the function.
- Drive share of best practices, fostering collaboration and innovation across the teams within the group.
- Support senior management with focus on ramping up efforts to digitize governance and oversight models within the function, while interfacing with key Business Unit decision makers.
- In partnership with the business, account for the execution of key transformation strategies, including strategic reviews on existing processes, contributing to the change agenda by submitting business cases, and ensuring smooth execution of active transformation programs.
- Champion and foster an innovation culture by encouraging teams to step outside of their comfort zone and supporting them through obstacles.
- Manage and mitigate operational risk; ensure issues are escalated and resolved timely and effectively.
- Validate the accuracy of operational risk heat maps and other risk assessments.
- Collaborate with local and segment risk functions to cascade and communicate operational risk awareness and management practices.
- Drive periodic scenario‑based tabletop exercises for business continuity planning to prevent service disruption.
- Ensure timely and effective closure of audit points.
- Ensure customer‑centered outcomes; enable feedback channels to align expectations and priorities.
- Define and refresh service level standards across the domain and manage delivery and reporting of KRI’s and KPIs per SLAs and Schedule of Services.
- Effectively manage direct and indirect costs; provide cost transparency to Finance teams and Business Units.
- Oversee annual business planning and business unit goal‑setting efforts.
- Ensure teams contribute to procedures and policies that are adhered to by subordinate leaders / teams.
- Accountable for timely / accurate information for performance and risk reporting, dashboards, governance reporting, and metrics for decision making.
- Ensure successful transitions of work and alignment toward a global shared services operation model.
- Manage a growing team; hire, compensate, promote, and assess performance.
- Develop group capability and functional expertise through training, coaching, mentoring, strategic talent and production management.
- Foster career progression via talent brokering and internal mobility, with succession plans in place.
- Engage teams by personalizing recognition and feedback, treating all members with dignity and respect.
- Champion diversity; ensure recruitment and selection practices reflect a diverse pipeline.
Preferred Qualifications
University degree in accounting, finance, or business management. Recognized investment, finance, or accounting designation preferred.Minimum 5+ years in a senior role leading and developing global operations / large teams across multiple geographies / time zones; shared services experience an advantage.Minimum 10 years of experience in financial services, with a strong focus on derivatives operations, collateral management, clearing and trade support.Industry certification such as CAIA, CFA, or FRM is a plus.Experience managing operational budgets (forecasting, monthly tracking, etc.) covering discretionary and fixed costs.Extensive knowledge of derivative products (Swaps, Options, Futures, Forwards) and their accounting, custody, and SWIFT messaging.Broad knowledge of life insurance and asset management businesses, audit methodologies, control frameworks, and risk management techniques.Active participation in educational opportunities, professional publications, networks, and organizations to stay current.Innovative thinker who negotiates, influences, and challenges status quo to improve processes across cultures and geographies.Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills with complex financial issues.Familiarity with project management approaches and continuous improvement projects.Adaptable in ambiguous environments and fast‑paced change; manages time and workload with aggressive timelines.Flexible on shift and working hours as required.Experience in a broad matrix organization, influencing stakeholders and moving toward common vision.Proven track record to influence others within and beyond business area.Excellent communication, active listening, and ability to work effectively across cultures and senior leadership.When You Join Our Team
