As an
OSP Designer, you will be responsible for outside plant (OSP) and inside plant (ISP) engineering and design for fiber optic networks. This role requires experience with aerial and underground facilities, a strong understanding of federal, state, and local permitting requirements, and familiarity with pole and conduit licensing procedures. The OSP Designer must have experience obtaining agreements, licenses, and approvals related to deeds, leases, easements, and rights-of-way (ROW), and work cohesively with Field Engineering and Construction Management teams to ensure successful network deployment.
WHAT YOU GET TO DO - Receive and analyze field data to design cost-efficient fiber network routes in accordance with customer specifications and guidelines.
- Process address lists and research plats, fiber cabling records, CAD drawings, network loops, and pole identification.
- Read and interpret highway/road prints, utility maps, and as-built drawings to identify conflicts with existing facilities.
- Perform general OSP engineering and design tasks, including aerial and underground fiber layouts.
- Collaborate with vendors and internal GIS and CAD teams to produce required documentation for application and permitting packages.
- Follow detailed engineering procedures while remaining adaptable to evolving standards and requirements.
- Coordinate with project teams on forecasting, scheduling, resource management, and quality assurance activities.
- Review project deliverables for accuracy and communicate risks, issues, and mitigation recommendations to project management.
- Work with project managers to identify scope changes, manage change orders, and support routine billing activities.
- Ensure the integrity of the customer access network and support the deployment of access technologies.
- Assist with as-built package completion, delivery, and billing closeout.
WHAT YOU BRING - 3+ years of sound OSP engineering experience deploying fiber optic networks, with knowledge of engineering principles, practices, and industry standards.
- Experience with Corning FlexNAP family of products.
- Knowledge of AT&T proprietary engineering systems.
- Knowledge of fiber optic counts, fiber assignments, and splicing schematics in high-density fiber environments.
- Experience working across all aspects of telecom with knowledge of NESC, NEC, and OSHA standards.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and experience with GIS platforms such as ArcGIS, ESRI, IQGeo, or similar tools.
- Familiarity with engineering tools such as OCalc, 3-GIS, or similar GIS/KMZ platforms.
- Proficiency in Adobe, Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Google Sheets, and Google Drive.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
