Senior Civil Designer / Engineer (Civil 3D)
Mineral Processing & Sustaining Capital
Senior – 7+ years
We are seeking a Senior Civil Designer / Engineer to deliver civil design and documentation for mineral processing plants, mining infrastructure, and sustaining capital projects. This role is hands-on in AutoCAD Civil 3D, producing bulk earthworks, grading and drainage designs, and roadworks documentation to support constructible, safe, and compliant site outcomes—working closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams and client/site stakeholders.
What You'll Do:
You'll be the kind of person who:
Bulk earthworks & grading
- Develop bulk earthworks designs including design surfaces, feature lines, grading objects, and earthworks staging where required.
- Produce grading plans and cut/fill plans (volumes, heat maps where applicable), balancing constructability, access, and site constraints.
- Model and document earthworks interfaces with plant facilities, hardstands, bunds, trenches, foundations, and services corridors.
Roads, alignments & pavements
- Design and document road geometry including horizontal/vertical alignments, profiles, and cross-sections.
- Prepare pavement drawings, typical sections, and road corridor documentation suitable for construction.
- Produce road marking and signage drawings where required by project scope and standards.
Drainage / hydrology (project-level)
- Calculate and apply runoff and drainage coefficients based on ARI design storm values and relevant design criteria.
- Develop civil design inputs for surface drainage (grading, flow paths, pits/culverts/swales as applicable) and coordinate discharge points and tie-ins with site constraints.
Quantities, reporting & deliverables
- Generate bill of materials / quantities reports from Civil 3D models (e.g., earthworks volumes, corridor quantities, pavement quantities) and support reporting for estimates and project controls.
- Produce high-quality deliverables including design plans, long sections, cross-sections, setout information, and drawing packages aligned to project/client drafting standards.
- Maintain drawing registers, revision control, and issue packages in line with document management workflows.
Coordination & quality
- Coordinate civil interfaces with structural/civil foundations, SMP/mechanical, piping, E&I, and process plant layout to resolve clashes and ensure constructability and safe access.
- Participate in design reviews, respond to markups, and support internal QA checks to ensure model/drawing accuracy and completeness.
- Provide technical guidance and review support to other designers (senior level), including Civil 3D standards and modelling practices.
Requirements
What You Bring:
We're looking for someone who:
Required experience & capability (senior)
- Demonstrated civil design experience on mining, mineral processing, heavy industrial, or sustaining capital projects.
- Strong competence in earthworks modelling, grading, and road design workflows within Civil 3D.
- Working knowledge of civil drainage concepts, ARI-based design inputs, and practical site drainage outcomes (within the scope of project requirements).
- Ability to interpret design criteria, survey data, and multidisciplinary layouts to produce constructible designs.
- Strong planning and stakeholder communication skills; able to manage priorities across concurrent projects.
Software
- Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D (essential).
- Highly regarded: Navisworks for coordination, AutoCAD (general), and BIM/ACC document workflows.
- Strong Excel capability for quantities, checks, and reporting (highly regarded).
Qualifications
- Degree or diploma in Civil Engineering, Civil Design, or equivalent practical experience in civil design/drafting roles.
Personal attributes
- Detail-oriented with a strong constructability mindset.
- Proactive, organised, and dependable under time pressure.
- Clear communicator and effective collaborator across disciplines and with clients
