The Chief Accountant oversees accounting operations in compliance with generally accepted accounting principles, standard procedures, and relevant regulations. This role primarily involves supervising accounting staff to ensure that departmental tasks, schedules, projects, and programs are completed accurately and on time.
Key Responsibilities :
- Oversee daily operations of the Accounting Department, managing staff performance, assigning tasks, and monitoring progress toward departmental goals.
- Prepare, review, and analyze financial statements, disbursements, invoices, encoded transactions, and check vouchers to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
- Ensure timely remittances to government agencies and prepare reports for creditor banks and senior management to guide decision-making.
- Develop and implement accounting policies, procedures, budgets, and financial projections to provide a complete financial overview of the organization.
- Coordinate with external auditors, provide necessary documentation, and address audit findings to ensure smooth audit processes.
- Conduct periodic reviews and random checks of accounting records and financial reports to maintain accuracy and compliance.
- Organize departmental training programs and support professional development to enhance team capability and efficiency.
- Stay updated on government regulations, industry trends, and technology, and perform additional duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications :
Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) with 35 years of accounting experience, preferably in a school setting.Proficient in GAAP, accounting procedures, departmental guidelines, and regulatory requirements.Strong knowledge of taxation laws and financial reporting regulations.Able to supervise staff and provide clear oral and written instructions.Skilled in ODOO, QuickBooks, Microsoft Excel / Word, and other accounting or office software.Familiar with electronic wallets and online cash management systems.Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with all levels of the organization.Up-to-date on industry and regulatory developments affecting accounting functions.
