The Import Logistics Coordinator is responsible for managing and coordinating all aspects of the international import process, with a primary focus on shipments originating from China. This role involves close collaboration with overseas suppliers, freight forwarders, customs brokers, and internal teams to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of goods while maintaining full compliance with U.S. import regulations. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, detail-oriented, and knowledgeable in international trade practices, Incoterms (specifically FOB), container consolidation, and U.S. customs laws.
Key Responsibilities :
- Manage and verify customer orders and initiate POs in SAP and communicate corresponding instructions to factories ensuring accuracy and on time delivery.
- Coordinate all inbound ocean and air shipments, primarily from China, ensuring timely and accurate delivery of goods.
- Manage relationships and communications with freight forwarders, shipping lines, customs brokers, and suppliers to ensure efficient transportation and customs clearance.
- Oversee and manage FOB (Free on Board) shipping terms and vendor interactions to optimize cost and delivery performance.
- Monitor and manage container consolidations to maximize shipping efficiency and minimize freight costs.
- Ensure all import documentation (commercial invoices, packing lists, bills of lading, ISF filings, etc.) is accurate and compliant with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) regulations.
- Track and update shipment status regularly and proactively communicate any delays, risks, or issues to relevant stakeholders. This includes updating retailer’s portals accordingly.
- Coordinate internal stakeholders such as warehouse, purchasing, and sales teams to ensure alignment of delivery schedules with business needs.
- Maintain and update import records in compliance with government regulations and internal company policies.
- Resolve discrepancies or issues with shipments, including damage claims, demurrage, and detention charges.
- Stay informed on changes to international trade regulations, tariffs, and duty rates that could impact import operations.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance import logistics efficiency and reduce costs.
Qualifications : Required :
3+ years of experience in international logistics, import coordination, or freight forwarding.In-depth knowledge of U.S. import laws, customs clearance procedures, and regulatory requirements.Experience working with FOB Incoterms, international suppliers (especially in China), and freight forwarders.Strong understanding of container consolidation and ocean freight processes.Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Outlook) and logistics platforms (e.g., ERP, TMS, or freight tracking systems).Excellent communication and organizational skills.Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.Preferred :
Experience with ERP systems such as SAP, NetSuite, or Oracle.Familiarity with HTS classification, ISF filing, and import documentation auditing.Knowledge of other Incoterms (CIF, DDP, etc.) is a plus.Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, International Business, or a related field.
