We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Intermediate Accountant to support our accounting team in preparing individual and business tax returns. This role involves retrieving and analyzing pre-fill reports from the ATO Tax Agent Portal, identifying missing data, and liaising with clients to gather necessary documentation. You will be responsible for accurate data entry into tax software, focusing initially on Rental and Business Schedules, with opportunities to expand into more complex areas such as Capital Gains Tax (CGT) calculations.
Success in this role requires strong organizational skills, excellent communication abilities, and a solid understanding of Australian accounting standards. Familiarity with tax software (e.g., QuickBooks, Xero Tax, MYOB, LodgeIT) and experience handling financial documents, BAS, and tax returns are highly advantageous.
What You’ll Do
- Retrieve pre-fill reports from the ATO Tax Agent Portal for individual and business clients. Review and analyze pre-fill data to identify missing information or areas requiring clarification.
- Request supporting documents and additional information from clients based on analysis.
- Follow up with clients where required to obtain outstanding documents or clarification.
- Accurately save documents to the relevant client file and ensure proper document management.
- Enter all relevant data into the tax return software ahead of the accountant’s appointment.
- Initially, focus on entering Rental Schedules and Business Schedules, with the potential to progress into more complex areas like Capital Gains Tax (CGT) calculations for shares and properties.
- Ensure data is complete, accurate, and ready to allow the accountant to conduct a faster, more efficient client meeting.
- Maintain clear communication with internal team members regarding file readiness or outstanding issues.
- Enter additional information requested for tax returns
