Staff Outsourcing Solutions / Ecomia is seeking experienced and detail-oriented AS / 400 Developers to support one of our long-time clients who is a leader in the powersports distribution industry. The AS / 400 Developer will play a critical role in developing, enhancing and maintaining business-critical applications running on the IBM i (AS / 400) platform.
This position is ideal for professionals who has worked with or enjoy working with legacy systems in a senior or junior capacity while also contributing to system modernization efforts. Familiarity with Infor A+ ERP is highly desirable, but not mandatory.
Key Responsibilities :
- Design, develop, test, and maintain applications on the IBM i (AS / 400) platform.
- Support and enhance legacy systems using RPG IV (ILE RPG), RPGLE, CL, DDS and related IBM i technologies.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather and understand business requirements and translate them into technical specifications.
- Troubleshoot and resolve application issues, performance bottlenecks and system errors in a timely manner.
- Participate in software upgrades, code migrations, and system maintenance tasks within the IBM i environment.
- Maintain and develop interfaces with external systems, APIs and newer platforms where necessary.
- Produce and maintain technical documentation, process workflows and user guides.
- Work closely with the team managing Infor A+ ERP to support data flows and business logic.
- Assist in identifying opportunities for system optimization and modernization while ensuring continuity of core business operations.
- Follow best practices in source control, change management and code quality.
Preferred Skill Set & Qualifications :
Technical Skills :
Strong development experience with IBM i (AS / 400) systems.Proficiency in RPG IV / RPGLE / ILE RPG, CL (Control Language), DDS and DB2 for i.Experience working with SQL and embedded SQL on the IBM i platform.Familiarity with Infor A+ ERP is a strong advantage.Experience with subfile programming, modular code and ILE service programs.Knowledge of IBM i system administration tasks is a plus.Development Practices :
Proficient in software development lifecycle (SDLC) principles in legacy environments.Experience with version control systems (e.g., TurnOver, Git, or equivalent for IBM i).Ability to write clean, maintainable and well-documented code.Soft Skills :
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.Effective communication and collaboration with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.Self-motivated with the ability to work independently or as part of a distributed team.Educational Requirements :
