Our client is seeking a Steel Frame Detailer to prepare accurate and compliant designs for light gauge steel framing projects across residential and commercial builds (up to 5 levels). The role requires strong technical expertise in Vertex BD (non-negotiable) and AutoCAD, combined with in-depth knowledge of the Australian Building Codes. The Detailer will work closely with engineers and clients to produce machine-ready drawings and ensure efficient and precise fabrication.

What You’ll Do

You’ll be the kind of person who :

• Use Vertex BD (mandatory) to create shop drawings and CNC-ready detailing for light gauge steel frames.
• Utilize AutoCAD for additional design work and integration.
• Prepare detailed, accurate drawings for walls, floors, and roof systems.
• Review architectural and engineering plans to ensure compliance with project specifications.
• Liaise directly with clients to clarify design requirements and manage amendments.
• Collaborate with engineers to assign structural checks and optimize steel usage.
• Apply knowledge of Australian Building Codes (non-negotiable) to ensure compliance.
• Revise and maintain documentation to reflect design updates and approvals.
• Conduct quality checks to ensure accuracy and minimize on-site errors.
• Support cost-efficiency by identifying ways to reduce overall steel usage.

What You Bring We’re looking for someone who : Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Architecture, or related field (preferred). 3+ years of experience in steel detailing or structural drafting. Proven expertise in Vertex BD (mandatory). Strong proficiency with AutoCAD. Solid knowledge of Australian Building Codes and standards (non-negotiable). Experience preparing drawings for CNC fabrication (preferred). Core Skills & Attributes Attention to detail (non-negotiable) – able to manage small but critical design elements. Strong communication skills to liaise with clients and engineers effectively. Ability to work under pressure and deliver timely, accurate detailing. Problem-solving mindset to address design challenges and discrepancies. Organizational skills to manage revisions and document control.
