Role Overview
The Senior Director – Accounting Operations is responsible for the leadership and strategic direction of end-to-end accounting delivery across global operations. This role oversees Record-to-Report (R2R), Procure-to-Pay (P2P), Order-to-Cash (O2C), and other accounting service lines delivered through shared service centers and / or outsourced partners.
The Senior Director ensures operational excellence, compliance, and efficiency while driving transformation initiatives, standardization, digital automation, and process improvements. This role partners closely with Controllership, FP&A, Audit, and business leaders worldwide.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Governance
Lead global accounting operations, including R2R, P2P, O2C, Intercompany, Fixed Assets, and Master Data.
Develop and execute the operational strategy to support scalability, standardization, and business growth.
Establish governance structures, service delivery models, SLAs, and KPIs for global accounting operations.
Ensure compliance with internal control frameworks, SOX requirements, and local statutory regulations.
Operational Excellence & Transformation
Drive continuous improvement and global standardization of accounting policies and processes.
Lead automation and digital transformation initiatives (RPA, workflow tools, AI-based analytics).
Optimize global ERP and accounting systems (SAP / Oracle / Workday, BlackLine, Trintech, etc.).
Reduce closing cycle time and improve quality of financial outputs and insights.
Business Partnering
Serve as key liaison between Shared Services, Corporate Controllership, and Business Finance.
Influence senior stakeholders and communicate financial / operational performance metrics to executives.
Manage vendor / outsourcing relationships (if applicable).
Leadership & People Development
Build and develop high-performing global teams, fostering a culture of accountability and excellence.
Coach and mentor leaders, focusing on talent development and succession planning.
Champion employee engagement, workforce planning, and capability development.
Qualifications
Required :
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business; CPA / CA / CMA preferred.
12+ years’ experience in accounting operations, controllership, or shared services.
Proven leadership managing large teams (300+ FTE preferred) across multiple regions.
Experience managing month-end close, operational KPIs, and internal controls.
Preferred :
Experience in a shared services / BPO / BPM environment or global capability center.
Lean Six Sigma certification or measurable continuous improvement track record.
Experience with global transformation, system migrations, or process design.
