Instructional Designer
Overall Role Purpose
The role of eLearning Course Builder supports the content and instructional design team in the production and maintenance of practice tests, learning objects, multimedia content, and course shells, ensuring alignment with Peterson’s content and design standards.
Job Duties & Expectations
Build and / or revise previously created online courses and practice tests in the LMS (Learning Management System) using specifications provided by editors and instructional designers (e.g., Word to HTML).
Update new and existing learning objects, materials, and multimedia content to meet accessibility, security, and UDL requirements. This includes :
Video captioning
File format conversion
Image descriptions
Examining code for accessibility compliance
Organize and maintain an inventory of learning objects and multimedia content used in the LMS.
Edit, convert, and implement graphics, video, audio, animations, and HTML5 objects associated with courses and learning modules into the LMS.
Review existing course materials, practice tests, and pages for inconsistencies, errors, and technical issues as part of the quality assurance process.
Perform additional duties as assigned.

Education & Experience :
Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Education, Multimedia Design, Educational Technology, or a related field.
1–3 years of experience in eLearning course development or instructional design, preferably in a corporate or academic setting.
Experience working with Learning Management Systems (LMS) such as Moodle, Blackboard, Canvas, or equivalent.
Technical Skills :
Proficiency in authoring tools such as Articulate Storyline, Adobe Captivate, Camtasia, or similar.
Strong knowledge of HTML, CSS, and multimedia formats for online course content.
Experience with video, audio, and graphic editing software (Adobe Creative Suite or similar).
Understanding of accessibility standards (WCAG, Section 508) and universal design for learning (UDL) principles.
Familiarity with converting Word / PDF content into HTML5 or SCORM-compliant LMS content.

Requirements
Key Requirements : Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive and solution-oriented mindset. Previous experience with coding education platforms, especially block-based (e.g., Scratch-like) or JavaScript-based environments. Experience with Cluey’s Code Camp World is not required, but familiarity with similar platforms is preferred. Basic understanding of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript is desirable but not essential. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact clearly and effectively with students and instructors. Strong attention to detail and accuracy when diagnosing issues or providing instructions. Comfort with documentation tasks, including updating internal FAQs and guides in a clear and concise manner. Familiarity with educational content, lesson plans, or digital learning resources is a plus. Preferred Qualifications (Nice to Have) : Experience with team collaboration and support tools such as Slack, LiveChat, or similar platforms. Familiarity with Markdown writing and basic understanding of version control systems (e.g., Git). Proficiency in Google Sheets or Microsoft Excel for tracking, reporting, and data management.
