The IT Infrastructure Administrator is responsible for managing, maintaining, and optimizing the organization’s core IT infrastructure. This includes servers, storage, networks, security systems, and cloud services. The role ensures the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of IT systems that support the organization’s business functions. The IT Infrastructure Administrator also provides technical expertise in planning, deploying, and troubleshooting infrastructure-related solutions, while ensuring compliance with security and operational best practices.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
Administer, monitor, and maintain servers, networks, storage systems, and virtualization platforms.
Manage user accounts, access controls, and permissions across infrastructure systems.
Perform regular system updates, patches, and security hardening activities.
Monitor system performance and proactively identify and resolve bottlenecks or potential issues.
Implement and maintain backup, recovery, and disaster recovery solutions.
Provide Level 2 and Level 3 support for infrastructure-related incidents and service requests.
Ensure high availability of critical infrastructure systems through redundancy, clustering, and load balancing.
Manage firewalls, VPNs, and other network security solutions to protect company data and systems.
Collaborate with vendors and service providers to ensure optimal performance and resolution of escalated issues.
Assist in IT infrastructure projects, including new system deployments, migrations, and upgrades.
Document system configurations, processes, and procedures for operational continuity.
Ensure compliance with IT policies, standards, and regulatory requirements (e.g., ISO, GDPR, HIPAA).
Tasks
Configure and maintain Windows / Linux servers and Active Directory services.
Administer Office 365, Exchange, and collaboration platforms.
Manage cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, or GCP) including virtual machines, storage, and networking.
Monitor and tune databases and application servers to ensure optimal performance.
Conduct network troubleshooting (LAN, WAN, Wi-Fi, VLAN, routing, switching).
Oversee endpoint protection, antivirus, and vulnerability management tools.
Generate regular system performance and security reports for management.
Participate in on-call rotation and provide after-hours support when needed.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
At least 3–5 years of hands-on experience in IT infrastructure administration or a related role.
Strong knowledge of Windows Server and / or Linux administration.
Experience with virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V, Proxmox).
Proficiency in network administration (TCP / IP, DNS, DHCP, routing, switching, VPN).
Solid understanding of IT security principles and best practices.
Experience with system backup, restore, and disaster recovery tools.
Familiarity with IT monitoring systems (e.g., Nagios, Zabbix, SolarWinds, PRTG).
Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Strong communication and documentation skills.
Preferred Requirements
Professional certifications such as CCNA, MCSA / MCSE, RHCSA / RHCE, CompTIA Security+, Network+, or VMware Certified Professional (VCP).
Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform).
Experience with scripting and automation (PowerShell, Bash, Python, Ansible).
Knowledge of ITIL practices for incident, change, and problem management.
Experience with enterprise storage solutions (SAN, NAS).
Familiarity with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
Exposure to Zero Trust and modern endpoint security frameworks.
