This is a remote position.

Virtual Rockstar is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Medical Billing Specialist to join our partner’s growing healthcare practice. This is a full-time position focused on billing, claim management, insurance verification, and client communication. The ideal candidate will have strong billing experience, thrive in a fast-paced environment, and ensure accuracy and efficiency in financial processes.

Responsibilities

Billing & Claims Management

Review charges and submit claims accurately.

Monitor and track incoming payments; process payments received.

Post ERAs and reconcile accounts.

Investigate and resolve billing discrepancies and disputes with clients and internal departments.

Review and appeal denied claims.

Generate billing reports and assist with audits, supporting month-end and year-end closing processes.

Insurance Verification & Authorizations

Perform accurate eligibility and benefit verifications.

Verify in- and out-of-network coverage using payer portals.

Obtain pre-authorizations and track the status of pending insurance claims.

Request and upload medical records for payment of claims and authorizations.

Act as liaison between patients, clinic staff, and insurance companies to clarify benefits and responsibilities.

Update patient files with accurate insurance and demographic information.

Client Communication & Administrative Support

Communicate with clients regarding billing inquiries, payment status, and financial responsibilities.

Provide direct support to clinic personnel regarding utilization, authorizations, and referrals.

Perform data entry, prepare reports, and maintain accurate patient and billing records.

Ensure compliance with HIPAA, company policies, and industry regulations.

Requirements

Attention to Detail : Accuracy in billing, claims, and financial reporting.

Billing / Accounting Software Proficiency : Prior experience with electronic billing systems (e.g., ClaimMD, Availity, EMR / EHR systems).

Organizational Skills : Ability to manage multiple accounts and deadlines.

Communication Skills : Strong written and verbal communication for client and insurance interactions.

Problem-Solving : Analytical skills to investigate and resolve billing discrepancies.

Time Management : Ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.

Adaptability : Willingness to cross-train and assist with overflow responsibilities.

HIPAA Compliance : Maintain confidentiality and follow all regulatory requirements.

Requirements

Previous experience in a medical administrative role (medical assistant, medical receptionist, or similar) is preferred. Familiarity with WebPT EMR and Therabill for patient payment posting is a plus. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal. Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. High level of professionalism and commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality. Comfortable with remote work and proficient in using virtual communication tools. Knowledge of insurance verification and pre-authorizations is a plus. Ability to work collaboratively with a team and contribute to a positive patient experience.
