The Chief Operations Officer (COO) provides strategic and operational leadership for all aspects of Operations and Logistics. This role ensures efficiency, safety, and excellence across the organization’s logistics and maritime activities, including vessel scheduling, port operations, and end-to-end cargo movement. The COO drives operational performance, continuous improvement, and alignment with the company’s overall growth objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership : Lead and oversee all operational functions—vessel management, scheduling, cargo logistics, port operations, and fleet deployment—ensuring seamless coordination and alignment with business goals.
Strategic Direction : Partner with the executive team to design and implement long-term operational strategies, optimize maritime routes, and integrate new technologies to strengthen market competitiveness.
Fleet & Vessel Management : Ensure the safe, compliant, and efficient operation of all vessels. Oversee maintenance, performance monitoring, and prompt resolution of operational issues to minimize downtime.
Port & Terminal Operations : Manage port activities, including berth allocation, loading / unloading operations, and coordination with port authorities. Drive initiatives to reduce cargo dwell times and increase throughput.
End-to-End Logistics Oversight : Enhance supply chain efficiency by integrating logistics systems, optimizing transport routes, and maintaining strong relationships with logistics providers and partners.
Process Optimization : Leverage digital tools, data analytics, and automation to improve tracking, inventory visibility, and logistics integration with clients.
Regulatory Compliance & Safety : Uphold strict adherence to international maritime laws and safety standards. Foster a safety-first culture and lead incident investigations with preventive and corrective actions.
Client & Partner Engagement : Build and sustain strong relationships with clients, industry stakeholders, and regulatory agencies to ensure operational excellence and service reliability.
Financial Stewardship : Develop and manage operational budgets, implement cost control measures, and analyze performance metrics to maximize efficiency and profitability.
People Leadership : Inspire, mentor, and empower a diverse team of operations managers and staff. Promote accountability, collaboration, and professional growth.
Risk Management : Identify, assess, and mitigate operational risks. Establish contingency and business continuity plans to safeguard operational stability.
Performance Reporting : Provide timely updates on operational performance, strategic initiatives, safety metrics, and risk management outcomes.
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Maritime Studies, Logistics, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related discipline.
Minimum 10 years of progressive leadership experience in shipping, maritime logistics, or supply chain management, including 5+ years in an executive or senior management role.
Proven expertise in vessel operations, port logistics, maritime regulations, and supply chain optimization.
Demonstrated success in leading multinational operations and managing cross-functional teams.
Strong track record of driving innovation, process efficiency, and business transformation.
Exceptional leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
High customer orientation and commitment to operational excellence and safety.
