JOB HIGHLIGHTS : Full time
Monday - Friday : 8AM - 5PM PST with 1hr unpaid break
The Data Entry Medical Specialist is responsible for accurately entering, updating, and maintaining patient and medical data within electronic health records (EHR) or other healthcare databases. This role ensures the integrity, confidentiality, and accuracy of medical records and supports healthcare operations by managing data used for billing, reporting, and patient care coordination.
Key Responsibilities
Accurately enter and update patient information, medical histories, and treatment details into electronic databases or EHR systems.
Review and verify the accuracy of medical documents, insurance information, and laboratory results prior to data entry.
Maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA (or equivalent data privacy) regulations when handling patient information.
Cross-check data entries for errors or inconsistencies and make necessary corrections.
Collaborate with healthcare staff, medical coders, and billing personnel to ensure records are accurate and complete.
Retrieve and provide patient data or reports upon request from authorized personnel.
Track and manage data entry logs to ensure timely completion of tasks.
Assist in data migration, database clean-up, and system audits when required.
Generate reports and summaries as requested by management or medical teams.
Follow established data entry procedures and maintain productivity and accuracy standards.
Qualifications
Education :
High school diploma or equivalent (required)
Associate’s degree or certification in Health Information Management, Medical Office Administration, or related field (preferred)
Experience :
At least 1–2 years of experience in medical data entry, health information management, or related administrative work in a healthcare setting
Familiarity with EHR systems (e.g., Epic, Cerner, Meditech, or similar) is a strong advantage
Skills and Competencies :
Strong attention to detail and accuracy
Proficiency in data entry software, Microsoft Office (Excel, Word), and database systems
Good understanding of medical terminology and basic healthcare documentation
Excellent organizational and time-management skills
Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately
Strong communication and teamwork abilities
Knowledge of HIPAA or data privacy regulations
